Hey everyone! I'm sure this is a question that's been answered many times, but I can't seem to find the answer with searching around. I figured I'd post a picture and some questions regarding my replacement issue.

Here is a photo of my current bulb that went out about a month ago and then the replacement I got. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to even get the original one out of the socket. Furthermore, how does the replacement even match the socket I have? I'm seeing a simple solution, here.

Really? no links or advice? Anyone ever seen that type of connection before?

Looks like you have an aftermarket HID kit on the car. You are trying to replace it with an OEM bulb. They are not interchangeable.

So, what are my options? Do you think this is something I'll have to take it to a Mazda dealer to figure out? thanks for your help, btw.

Mazda won't have that type of bulb. They will put a standard hallogen bulb in. If you still want the HID's you'll have to order replacements from DDM Tuning, ebay, etc

Based on what my photos show of the original bulb in there right now - how do I even remove that bulb? Is there a connector somewhere down the wires that I can't see, or is there a way to remove the wires from the bottom of that bulb base? There's also a big fat lock washer that looks like might provide the ballast (if I understand it correctly) just between the wire clip and the base of the bulb. Even after I re-installed it yesterday so I could drive to work, the bulb assembly was pretty loose in there (probably why it burned out).

What would you do in this situation?

The bulbs are fairly inexpensive. I think I picked up a pair of bulbs for $20-25 last time.

Based on that, maybe I have connectors further down the line somewhere that I can't see easily? I don't see any connectors near the actual bulb base, so maybe its further down the wires somewhere. Perhaps the owner before me replaced it with a kit similar to what that shows....

Follow the wires and you'll see a pair of AMP connectors. Disconnect them and you can remove the bulb. Buy a replacement that looks like it or you can remove the whole kit and use halogen bulbs.

I'll try that and let you know what I discover. Thanks!

Here's what I found upon further investigation. I guess these are part of the conversion kit? They look more like what I've found to replace the HID bulb assembly. The red arrows point to the connectors for the bulb wires.

Does the number on the tag indicate what part # or model I need to buy to replace this assembly?

Ok, I went to O'Reilly and the guy said they don't carry those because it is aftermarket. He said I could remove these and replace them with halogen but warned that it might be best to have someone who knows what they're doing help me with the electronic aspect of it. He also said I could go online and find one that looks like it, but there wasn't a way to figure out which model or conversion kit it is.

any suggestions? Should I just try to find a replacement that matches or should I convert it back to halogen bulbs? What's required to get halogens in there?

I'd rather just find a replacement for what I have. Are there standard sizes or are they all different? I have no way of figuring which aftermarket kit is in my car...

You need an H7 replacement. The hardest part will be figuring out color temperature if it is not marked on the bulb. Otherwise if you want to replace what you have with a kit of known quality and excellent customer service, Here:http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=3893

Great, thanks! After some searching, I went ahead and got a pretty cheap set for about $30 including a couple H7 spacers ($2 extra). They're 6000k, and I think my current ones are 8000k. I'll let you know how they work when I get them in.

If that's the case you will be much happier with 6000K vs the 8000K. You'll get more light on the road

Were you able to get answers of your questions? I am trying to replace old bulbs with HID lights. I am completely unaware about replacement process..So can you help me out?

I'm pretty much up on HID lighting....have done a few (5) complete retrofits (opening headlights, replacing stock projectors with HID projectors, etc.). That much said, your pictures are confusing. One of your pics is of a D2S Hid bulb which only fits in a HID reflector bowl. The other two bulb pics are aftermarket bulbs designed to fit in a halogen reflector. The pics of the wiring coming off the bulb show AMP connectors. WTF? Most of the time (99.9%) it is NOT the bulb but the cheap ass Chinese POS ballast that comes with these kits. PM me and I'll try to walk you thru this and save you a bunch of $ by not guessing.
