Newf,

I just got mine yesterday. Installed my mod chip last night. Tonight's task is to install a different dashboard and then Wednesday install a different hard drive.

You can play DVD-Rs on an un-modded XBox if you got lucky and got a Samsung drive in your XBox. I did.:) A modded XBox is an unbelievable piece of equipment when you compare it to the "media centers" that some of the big companies like HP and Prismiq sell. It does MORE than they can do and it does it better and cheaper!

Installing the chip wasn't TOO bad - definitely harder than when I put 1 in my PS1, but I got it on the first try. Hopefully putting the dashboard on tonight will go smoothly. If you have any questions feel free to let me know...maybe I can help, maybe not.

My Xbox bit the dust. They told me I needed a new hard drive and was no longer under warranty since it has been 2 years since I bought the system. It will cost around $100 for a new hard drive. I was like geez, for that I'll buy a brand new one. I have no idea what the problem was, but I only played one or two games on the damn thing every now and then. I only bought it back when it was $299 just for Halo. But now with the new one coming out, I'm stressing since I'll need to fix it before then. Let's see... car mod's..... Xbox..... car toys.... video games....hmmm....

I see a lot of people loosing their hard drives. Then i poke around and ask some questions to find out that they either dropped it...or moved it a lot while it was on......2 big no no's when there's a hard drive involved. A hard drive sould be off so the heads are parked before ANY movement.

Now, had my x box for two hours

1. graphics in star wars kotr SUCK next to the pc. Jaggies everywhere....eeeeew. Damn low res crap.

2. finding the overall image quality fussy. Using the included composite cables. Might look into the other cables you can by, but I only have s-video as my best connection. I heard there was a way to connect this to a pc monitor? how?

Now, I got to find a good mod to buy. Girth, which one did you get?

Newf you can hook it up to your computer monitor if you buy a VGA adapter box. Best Buy sells them .... they're a little pricey though if I remember correctly (like $50-$80?).

I bought the Xecuter 2.3B Lite. All in all I'd definitely recommend that chip because it does everything you'll need and there's TONS of info/tutorials specific to this chip. IMHO don't waste you money on the "pro" model - the Lite is good enough and less complicated. I'm really shocked how well these mod chips are made compared to the old PS1 mod chips - the PS1 was just a bare IC that you had to either put in a breadboard or solder wires directly to. The Executer chip for XBox is a lot nicer -- you just solder wires and then PLUG the wires into the chip itself - much easier in that regard.

Not to start a war in here, but as far as games a concerned. Xbox is catching up & starting to pass the PS2.

The only reason I didn't sell my PS2 at first was because Xbox's WWF (F' the E) Rax Sucks... The new smack down saved my PS2. It also looks like the SOCOM Series will save it as well. After playing the First Ghost Recon, beside HALO, I wasn't to keen on mission based games. Butt, from what I can see, SOCOM is a lot better... Yeah Madden isn't online playable. This year... But when it does WATCH OUT!!! If a game I like comes out on both systems, you guessed it XBOX... Just my $0.02

A factory mode to fool MS? Me Like....

So if we were to mod our X Box, we wont be able to play online? Will it be detected?

you flick a switch, and it turns off the mod chip, and everything is back to normal so you can play on Live.

Now, finding the Modchip is the real trick. Everyone seems to be out of stock.
