x-type?

Forget the X-Type. As above, it is based on the Ford Mondeo platform, which also hatched the Ford Contour (NOT the Taurus).

Funny little tidbit of info about that car- do you know why its all wheel drive?

Because there's never been a front wheel drive Jaguar and Ford knew people wouldn't accept one. Ford needed to base this car off an existing platform to take advantage of economies of scale, however. Developing a new platform wasn't economically feasible.

So, they engineered an all-wheel drive system for the front drive platform. The X-type is born.

Good info rocketspeed, makes sense.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, you should try and spring the extra $5g's and get the Volvo S60R, that car is sweet and it's AWD too.

these are all just opinions. the only way youre going to know what you like is to go and test drive them. in that price range, i would look at the g35, the TL, and the bmw 5 series

Bang for the buck-G35

I own a 2002 325i and am very happy with it. No problems so far, and the free scheduled maintenance helps out. But once our lease is up, we're getting a G35 coupe.

The Audi gives free scheduled maint as well, they'll even replace the clutch once for free.

Volvo - used to be good cars. Now they are just Jaguar, since Ford makes them...

To the best of my knowledge, this is not true. Jaguar and Volvo do not share any platforms yet (eventually they probably will).

The X-type is the Modeo platform and the S type is the same platform as the Lincoln LS. The bigger Jags run on platforms of their own.

The Volvos are FWD platforms (some do have AWD tacked on like was the case with the X-type Jag).

The Volvo S40 and the Mazda 3 are cousins now, however.

If I was looking for a car in this part of the market, I'd take a very hard look at the BMW 3 Series. It isn't so highly rated for nothing. The Infiniti looks appealing, but you can't sell me on the fact that its 8/10ths of a Skyline. I'd love to buy a Skyline, but not Skyline Lite. If I'm going to drop 30-35k, I want a car that's everything I want it to be.

The VW Passat with the W8 is a performance bargain as well. You can only get it with auto and AWD, but it cooks.

sorry for my mistake about the taurus. But i do have another question when the x-type first came out it wasn't optioned with an awd. now i might be mistaken and if so please correct me.

what ? i'm just wondering...this should've been in the off topic or other sport compacts section.

it's not like i said in another thread oh damn thank god for putting this thread in the right section woopty woo
