The midnight matinee is a beautiful thing, especially when the movie is worth the after-hours torture on the sleep cycle.

I've gotta say - Damn, this is one xcellent film (bad pun!). You never expect a sequel to live up to its predescessors in any fashion, and X2 doesn't do that at all - it exceeds every single standard that the first movie set for the comic book film genre. Without giving away too much, I'll say that fans of the first film will certainly be pleased with the darker tone and deeper emotional attachments, and that fans of the comic book will both love and hate the things that Singer and Hayter have done with this film. The "continuity ******" will be out in force on this one :)

Pluses:

- Nightcrawler; simply simply awesome in every sense of the word.

- Wolverine's badass rampage.

- The hooker and the bar scene - you'll know it when you see it.

- The cameo inclusion of numerous mutants that will instantly be recognized without even uttering their names.

- Rogue's character evolvement, along with Iceman.

- The final, stunning scene.

Minuses:

- James Marsden (Cyclops) nearly blows a crucial scene with borderline soap opera semantics.

- A little too much focus on Wolverine and Storm. Yes, Halle Berry won an Oscar, and yes, Hugh Jackman looking mad and kicking ass is great - but lets not ground the whole movie on thier performances alone.

- Lady Deathstrike; sorry to give this away, but no spoken lines for this character whatsoever?!?!. Definetely underutilized!

Oh, and for TRUE sci-fi nerds, tell me that the final monologue and scene doesn't remind you of the final scene of Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan?!?! A clear homage to that film right there.

Also, for those that did not know, the screenwriter of this film (david hayter) is the same dude who voices Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid. Useless trivia I know.

Sorry for the endless post, but I just wanted to really recommend this flick, it is awesome with a capital A. I think the Matrix Reloaded has a lot of work to do to impress me after this...

i saw it this morning too. much better than the first.

loved the cameos, even beast was there if you were watchful.

NEED GAMBIT. i love that guy.

soo excited - it's going to be my reward for finishing my evil honors project.

Dr Hank McCoy owns :D

this was like a perfect setup for the Xmen 3....

and Jubilee was kinda hot in the last scene back at the school :D

(werd) and Psylocke! She owns!

Don't read if you haven't seen the movie!!!!!

HRmm... I don't remember seeing Beast or Jubilee. Colosses was cool. The movie was awesome and anyone that was a fan of the cartoon will know what the 3rd movie will be about. I can't wait. I'm so looking forward to the next one.

I think I liked the part where Magneto gets out of his cage the best. That was just a cool sceen how they did that.

I don't think the ending sceen is an homage to Star Track, it's definately setting up just for the sequal. Can we say Pheonix Saga. Unless you are a big star track fan and can prove it to me somehow I still dont' think it's related.

This really was a bad ass movie. Oh another downfall

--- Needed to show the RX-8 more. :)

saw this last night. I'm not someone that followed the comic, but I did like the 1st one, and the this movie was better imho.

The whole cyclops soap opera thing made me a little pissed off. the guy just can' act. Get rid of him for the next movie please. didn't like hm in the last one either.

And they never showed the rx-8 at all???? WTF???? 30 seconds and that's it? All the hype about the x-men rx-8, and we never really even seen it in a good light.

Other then that, great movie. Worth the $$$

Jean Grey sacrifices herself while no one notices to save the rest of the Xmen and the jet. There is a great deal of protest during the sacrifical scene by her fellow mutants but she still succeeds. The final scene of the film involves Jean, rather than Prof Xavier, speaking the credits / monologue and then a glimpse of her Phoenix form as if to offer hope she may return. (X2, 2003)

Spock sacrifices himself while no one notices to save the rest of the crew and the ship. There is a great deal of protest during the sacrifical scene by his fellow crew but she still succeeds. The final scene of the film involves Spock, rather than Captain Kirk, speaking the credits / monologue and then a glimpse of his crashed coffin as if to offer hope he may return. (ST2: Wrath of Khan, 1982)

On top of this, Bryan Singer (director of X2) is a huge Trek fan. If you watch, he has a small role next to Patrick Stewart in the most recent Trek film, uniform and all.

So that's proof of an homage / tribute to me. BTW - its TREK not TRACK ;)

I'm impressed!! This movie exceeded every single one of my expectations (this coming from a former, avid comic book collecter). (2thumbs) Hell yeah Singer!

And agreed, I can't wait to see X3 ... I'm really looking forward to seeing Iceman kicking ass. I always thought it'd be cool to travel around town on a ramp of ice :p

my bad, sorry don't konw how to spell. And yes now that you say that I can see the reference to it. I forgot how that show ended, haven't seen it for so long. Sorry didn't mean to make all you TREK fans mad lol. I still didn't see beast or jubilee though. Nightstalker was cool as hell though. Rogue had the ability to fly, and was strong as hell in the cartoons, wonder if she'll develop those abilities or not.

How hot was Jean though. Man she was lookin damn good with her hair like that.

I'm wondering if we're gonna see arch angel or apocolypse in the next one. Oh and juggernaught, how they going to make him the huge giant he was. All questions that are gonna kill me till the next movies out. Wish they could make these like 3 months apart. Or a new one every saturday morning like the cartoons.

And one last thing. How bout the previews for the Incredible Hulk. I dunno if I really wanna see it. I don't think they did a good job with the computer animation on him. Just my thoughts though.

Beast: He was shown in a brief instance. In the bar scene with the securtiy cop and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, there's a TV in the background with a news program. You see Dr. Hank McCoy, aka Beast. He just wasn't blue, so you didn't notice.

Jubilee: At the very end, when Prof. X is talking with the students, she was the asian girl sitting next to him with the large hoop earrings and the kinda-spikey hair.

Yeah that last scene when they are showing the yellow glow under the water...I think that is so gonna be Pheonix!

I don't get it though...in the cartoon....the phoenix chose jean and like possessed her or something....but like in this it was like she jst developed this phoenix sympton within herself....?!??

Maybe it's a slow posession or something. It already chose her but she doen't know it. That's why she keeps having the nightmares and stuff.

And not seeing beast or jubilee just give me a reason to go back and see it again :). I'm gonna have to search kazaa for some x-men cartoon. I wanna see the pheonix saga, haven't seen it for so long.
