Trailblazer SS AWD ....Still a Mazda Junkie Though.
I know that WW is shipping out the Evo hood for the pro's but has anyone who actually had one on order got theirs yet?
Matt:)

nope........

mine shipped last tues tho. If I wasnt in fuggin CT then i would probably have it by now :)

i definately want to see a pic installed...do you plan on keeping it full CF or painting the sides like WW

after much contrmplation, i believe I will be painting the whole thing.

I have a autoexe style grill and unless that was CF i dont think the center CF and the sides orange would look right.......

At the same time I never used ot be a fan of the all CF hood as it looks like crap to someone who doesnt know what they are looking at.....AND i think the fleck in the orange - which looks even moreso amazing on angles and sharp lines - will look awesome on the angles of the vent.

So without further adue......and unless someone changes my mind, I will be covering up all the gorgeous CF :)

nice, or there is some pearl paint i saw done on a WRX that was sweet as s***, so you could still see the CF but yet the badass paint

I had thought of that.....

the MSP orange is like a orange base coat and then a pearl coat which is clear with the gold flecks as I understand it.

and i considered the orange glaze with gold flecks but while I still may use that method on the lip I think paint will be best for the hood....I also considered leaving like the mazdaspeed logo in CF on the hood somewhere in some fashion so you could still see the pretty weave but that would probably end up lookin like cr4p

i got mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

im almost as excited as when I heard my car had come in.... :)

I havent seen it yet, my friend who's business i had it shipped to just IMed me and told me it was JUST dropped off. apparently one corner of the box was smashed in though so I hope its ok!!!

I believe its supposed to have a clearcoat on it, and im guessing installation is real simple so maybe I will throw it on tomorrow for a cple days and get some pics for you guys (Im not putting it on for good until I do alllllll my exterior mods at once, a process which is being held up by spool springs) :)

i got pics, installed it today.

Im at work tho, so ill try to take some more closeup pics before it gets dark and I will post whatever I have tonight before midnight

looks badass....my friend is tryin to convince me not to paint it now :)

ok

i have 3 crappy pics, but i think the FW here at workis preventing me from uploading them. if anyone has an email address i can send em to so you can post them then we cand o that.

drop me an IM on aol: slug420

my review:

i have only seen a few CF hoods in person before now so I dont really know what to expect. There are a few imperfections in it. If you look near the top of the hood there appear to be some small air bubbles in the clearcoat. Near my right headlight there is a small chip that appears to just be a chip in the clearcoat which may be from shipping (there was damage to that corner of the box). In one spot it appears there is a tiny spot of blue in the CF material (below the clearcoat) and when looking from a distance you notice a line which is an imperfection of sorts in the fabric that goes partially across the hood. When you look up close you cant really see it, but when you stand back it looks like a wrinkle kind of.

The the metal latch on the car is higher than the receiver on the hood is deep, so I needed to dremel away some fiberglass to allow the car's latch to go far enough itno the hood to close it completely. I called wings west and they said this little section around the latch on the hood should have been cut out before it was shipped. They offered no help other than telling me i could dremel it out and that they will make sure it is removedona ll new shipping hoods.

All in all I like it a lot. Think it looks really badass, cant wait to get my lip and grill on too, not to mention springs and rims. MY friend has been trying to convince me not to paint it since it looks so cool, but depending on how noticable the imperfections are after I clean it up a bit, I might want to paint it anyways......

quality-wise I was expecting perfect CF on my lip and hood but seeing as how my lip has places you can see right through the CF, im pretty happy with the hood....

looks-wise I think the evo hood is the best thing to happen to the protege since Spicy Orange paint.

:)

ok i told slug i would upload for him...let me just say, im glad i saw the pics first...im definately going with the Ion hood!

Im glad they at least did something about the water issue since I am 100% positive there would have been problems if the vent was left open ... HOWEVER ... their new solution isnt exactly the best looking - maybe if the metal was anodized black?

I might be the camera used (dont think so since the color of the Spicy Orange came out) .. but the hood doesnt seem to have a nice gloss either?

Im still happy I got my APC hood -- I think its the only decent product they have (probably due to the fact that its made by another company).

Yea I really dont like APC either but the hood was an exception. You can get it from PepBoys and Summit Racing.

I got mine from Nopi. Go to Nopi Online and enter 101026 as a part number. The part that comes up doesnt specify the APC hood but thats the one you want.

If you order it online thru them you will get an incorrect shipping quote. They will call to correct it. Your total will probably be ~$550 shipped.

hmmm....im torn between that and the ion blue hood...but it will be quite some time before i can afford a hood since pulleys and cams are more important to me...i agree, if the vents were dark, it would be better, but slugs gonna take care of that
