Wtf V6-mp3?

well maybe not direct bolt on, but fairly simple to do compared to other engine swaps.

It's not proven, according to that thread.

Someone looked into to it.

That doesn't mean anything. Looking at the motor and looking at the engine bay is no where near actually trying to put the dam thing in.

I say it is more difficult than stated in that thread. But I don't know either because I haven't done it.

someone buy me a dx pro and i'll do it.

I forgot to mention, the ad, is just some dumb dealer that didn't pop the hood and listened to some clown say, "I think those have a V-6 in them..."

right but i had read somewhere else that the v6 would work too...im not going to quote anyone but i think turbo matty p had something to say about it.

anyway i think the wiring harness etc and driveline etc would be too cost prohibitive unless youre going all-out drag, it wouldnt be something i would do, but i just heard it will fit.

wow, I'd love to see the person who made 2 motor mounts for a Contour SVT engine and was able to use it in the Protege.

The 2.5L in the Contour SVT is the same block as the Ford 3.0L Duratec. The engine was de-stroked to run higher rpm's. I had a hotrod shop look into mounting my SHO 3.0L into my MSP when the motor popped and after a week and a half of measuerments and theorys the conclusion is this:

the engine BLOCK is 3-4" longer on the 2.5L-3.0L ford motor. You will have too much interference with the pulley systems rubbing the fenderwell. This can be solved by removing all mounts and shortening the drivers side axle by 4-5"'s. However a new problem occurs in that you have once real long axle and one real short axle. Also the weight of the duratec motor is very heavy when compared to the FS-DE motor. Weight transfer also becomes a problem. The handling is severly screwed up and the tranny is weak and will not hold 225hp/240lb/ft for very long....and that's just stock power levels for the SHO.

But yes, it will just bolt up to the tranny. The tranny in the Protege is the same that was used in the SHO.....that's why I've been through 3 of them.

wait, justin, you mean there is more proteges than just the mazdaspeed???? :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
(rofl)

Give the man a break, he may have simply thought the MSP and MP3 were basicly the same. The MSP is a the MP3s predocessor after all.

type-o

i'd hold the dealership to it...just go in there and in a nice southern voice say:
"well god damn, you said it had a V6...you best be puttin that s*** in 'der"

"or at least come off that price about 3 grand...that's what the V6'll cost me."
i'm sure somewhere on that page or in the book there is a disclaimer stating they are not responsible for type-o's, blah blah blah.. covering their ass. or if not they'd just tell you: "we had that car and already sold it, but here is another MP3 that's a 4-cylinder if you're interested... let's talk numbers" :D

I found this on a Seattle Auto Mart mag.

Is that for real? Possible? (boom04)
HEY! That car is the one I test drove.....only now it is on a lot that the owner of the mitsubishi dealer owns that he offs all his used cars to. They have it on the lot for 10,800.......
oh yeah...it for sure does not have a v6 :)

Ok maybe this is a moron question, and i'm ready to get flamed for it, but if the SHO engine bolts up to our tranny, why cant a SHO tranny bolt to our engine?

EDIT: AND what year SHO are you talking about. My friends SHO is a cable shifter, and the protege is rod right?

Ha! How did you find out that is was the one you test drove?
I am just so curious.

The trannys are interchangeable. My SHO is a 1990. In 91 or 92 they made the rodshifter factory. I had mine converted. It made it easier to slam the gears, but no performance gain, just durability.

The SHO tranny WILL bolt up to the FS-DE motor. The tranny used in the SHO is the same that was used inthe Probe and 626 etc....The problem isn't bolt patterns, it'sspacwe between fenders and transmission driveshaft length.

the MP3 has ABS doesn't it?? I can't imagine ANY new car not having ABS....also Mazda uses their own braking system called EBD....it's included with ABS

No, the MP3 does NOT have ABS...Never has, never will.

wow!! what was it's 60-0 stopping distance?? I know the P5 can haul it down pretty damn quick. I wonder what their logic was with leaving it out??
