Wtf...cai?

Ok....maybe too much jack and coke tonight, but I think I just realized that my MS3 came with a Mazda CAI alreay installed. Bought it new (with a 100 miles on it) from the dealer about six months ago.

So I am reading the air box mod thread and notice that I don't have a fricking air box next to the TMIC. I have a nice chrome tube that runs down into the left wheel area. Looks just like a MS3 CAI...wtf??

Someone posted an 08 engine compartment pic and I noticed the box next to the tmic. Ok I thought, maybe some change for 08; I don't have one those.

I had obviously read about the Mazda CAI but never really looked for a pic of it. It was actually going to be my first mod.

Spent some time in engine compartment in the past and wondered why they would bury the air filter down by wheel well.

I know this sounds dumb....but think about buying a brand new car...would you expect any mods to it??? Holy hell if I would have pulled the trigger on the CAI only to realize I already had it. Think about it...I had no reference!

So why would my dealer put a CAI on the car? Damn I worry about those first 100 miles.....

Maybe installed at the port as part of someone else's custom order. Perhaps it was then shipped to your dealership by mistake and the guy who ordered it is yelling at the dealership for not having his custom part installed when he picked it up... poor guy- Reminds me of a Pearls Before Swine cartoon. I see Rat and Pig and Andy the Dog going at it. Awesome. (mj)

I checked all the paper work, sticker, etc...no mention of it. Lots of possibilities but I am not complaining!

So what is the best way to access the CAI air filter?

By pulling off the front part of the plastic wheel well liner. But you shouldn't have to worry about that for 20K or so unless you're driving in really dusty conditions.

If I were you, I'd want the dealership to acknowledge on your sales slip that the car was delivered to you with a CAI. It means the difference between Blue Warranty and Green Warranty. Blue means it's officially covered under the full warranty as opposed to just a replacement warranty.

nice, but its kinda sucky, you cant enjoy the change in the car and the fact that the intake was installed

You might want to check for the other Mazdaspeed mods. They may have modded out that car and you got the deal of a century.

Look for Red colored springs, check to see if the tailpipe on your exhaust says MazdaSpeed on the end cap. Check for any other RED colored suspension parts.

Report back to us with your FINDINGS!

Yes.... Let us know.

that actually sucks if you ever want to trade it in because you don't have your stock parts. if they did it and included the stock intake then great but they obviously didn't so you can never be stock

lol! good deal, man! :D the thing that really drew me toward the MS CAI was that it doesn't give you trouble for warranty work. they absolutely will NOT b**** at you for having an intake mod, since it's their own product, and they vouch that it will not cause harm to the engine accordingly...;)

This is incorrect. Individual parts come with the different warranties. CAI, CBE, Springs are all Green which means 12 months/12000 miles no matter who installs them. Mazda techs just see them as stock items. Blue warranty items are only included in the life warranty of the vehicle if installed by dealer.

Thats why he really needs to get to the dealer and get an invoice saying it was installed before he purchased it and he didn't specifically ask for it. That way at trade in/sell time, he can show it was a dealership thing, not his call.
