I got a little universal one from a seller on ebay, mykeyless-1. It's smaller the the original, and it's worked fine for a year. It was a lot cheaper than the mazda ones on ebay.

sorry for not responding earlier, this post wasn't showing up in my CP. And I will add my location asap (thought i had put that in there when i first registered) thank you all very much for the Ebay suggestions, will be looking there, baybe for one of those switchblade keys that was suggested.

poindexter, do you or anyone else know of specific universal remotes that will work? (mykeyless-1 is comming up with 0 remotes for an 02 protege5 (uhm) ) are they all completely universal for all cars or is there a special type i should be looking for. and of those, which do you all recommend? thanks again!

Link? I've heard to make this work, you gotta dish out a LOT of cash...
i don't remember who, but, he said it programmed exactly the same as any other remote and just have to go to a locksmith to have em cut it

can anyone confirm that that thing works? if not, I'll guinnea pig it. My remote is gonna break soon (where the key ring goes through half of it already broke).. so I'd at least be willing to give it a shot. if it won't program then I will report back and try to get a refund.
there has been one guy that did say it works, but, it was admist the "What have you done to your P5" thread and i won't be able to find it

my only worry with that ebay posting is the picture of the switchblade shows "lock" "unlock" and "trunk", but our p5 remotes have a panic button, not a trunk button because we don't have trunk actuators.
assuming thats a generic picture (even though they have a pic of the real p5 remote with it) thats not a bad deal considering its pretty close to the same price as all the other remotes iv been finding anyways

it may just have trunk on the panic button, which wouldn't really bother me.

i have a gies switch blade key from ebay all you do is get key cut and put electronic switch board from your old keyless in the switch blade but my old keyless sucked way before i got that so i need a new one neways so heres a few pics and there is a youtube video
