Hey everyone, new to the forum.

I Just picked up a 2001 mp3 that is in need of an engine. From what I've been reading it sounds like i'm good with any 2.0L protege engine from a manual equipped car as long as I retain my ECU and swap over the manifold.

If anyone has a lead on any engines, as far as a good supplier or breakers yard that may have one for sale, or if you yourself have an engine for sale, please let me know what you're looking to get for it with shipping, to the Detroit area, zip code = 48126.

Thanks!

mind adding your location to your profile?

You are correct on all counts. So just find any FS-DE for manual transmission and you are good to go (and you shouldn't have to pay too much for one either ;))
what are you looking for? something new. or something used with 30k miles?

That looks like an FS-ZE to me, and you won't want to mess with that due to wiring.

I'm in Michigan. Would the 2.0L engine from a mazda mx6 or Ford Probe work? I've been reading conflicting info on this.

Thanks!

they are the same motor...but the ford probe motors have a distributor....proteges are distributor-less. we use coil packs

Thanks for the reply guys. What would I have to swap over from the mp3 engine to the probe engine to make everything work? The reason the mp3 engine died is because the previous owner ran the car without oil (roughly 12k miles over without an oil change).

Thanks!

In terms of the longblock, you wouldn't need anything except if you used a distributor engine for the swap. If you did, you'd need the coils/plugs/wires/valve cover. Other then that, I'm not really sure; motor experts would need to chime in.

My question is why didd you buy the car without checking the oil level, and how long before you noticed issues? What WERE the issues. I'll take a wild guess and say spun bearings but...

I bought the car in it's current non-running state knowing it needs an engine.
