Wrc 04

Sorry...dont know much about regulations but I did find this
http://www.fia.com/Reglements-sportifs/Rallyes/Anglais/WRC-2003-a-ok.pdf

section 2 talks about eligible cars...basically 2 groups...

Group N- Production Cars
Group A- Touring Cars (including World Rally cars.)

So if Group N are the production cars that are requires 5,000 car production...what is group A? do they still rally with group A cars. I know they got ride of group B.

Is there any place to find specific regulations? MSP are limited production but isnt the STi limit production too? Not trying to be dick...just getting some info...Im a bit new to the WRC. But I love it!

NP, Rally car classifications are confusing, I still don't completely get them

I think Group A is still run, though I'm not completely clear on that.

Group N is still run, and I think is the only FIA standard used in the ProRally Championship.

WRC Spec is a special allowance homologation for manufacturers running the WRC. Its complicated, but it boils down to, they must be built by a manufacturer who is signed on to contest a full championship. There are some additional allowances for new entries by manufacturers into the WRC (Citroen is the most recent of these).

The Sti is not limited in the same sense the MSP is. The Sti has a limited number of vehicles made each year, but there will be an Sti built in future years. The MSP will not be built in '04. Additionally, the Sti is not the car the Impreza WRC is based off of. Cars like the Sti and Evo are actually examples of Group N vehicles. The WRC spec car run by Subaru is actually based off of the standard Impreza, not an Sti.

Unfortunately its hard to find exact specifications. For the basics, check out rallycars.com - they have a fairly good overview of what's being used & what was once used.

Rally is awesome. WRC drivers are IMO some of the most talented people on the planet.
I got a chance to see them run in person last year for GB. Its hard to explain just how unique the vehicles are if you can't see them in person. Pictures just don't do justice.

What are you reading?? I'm not sure of the numbers but every Wrc car must produce a certain number of units in a certain number of countries. For example the sti, has to make at least 2,500 sti's (and yes the rally cars are made from sti's) and sell them in the Uk, Japan and so on. Not sure on the exact numbers though but that is how it's done. Yes the Wrc Impreza is made out of an Sti. I read a while back in a magazine that they do make them out of spec C's possibly. I could be wrong about the spec c's. But they did an interview with the people who build the cars. They have a lot with nothing but white sti's. They use white because it makes the painting easyer to do or something. It was a cool article they went into detail about how they tear down the cars and rebuild them from scratch after every race if they weren't crashed. I think the article may have been in sport compact.(mj)

Anybody watch WRC this past weekend??That Evo looks sick but they should seriously get rid of the 206 wing,I'm sorry,it looks gay on the Evo and another gay aspect is NO PADDLE SHIFTING!!That must suck to drive that car.As for the 307, they should have kept the HB platform, the coupe cabriolet looks gay.

And my man Petter not off to a great start to his title defense,I'm I right??

Subaru should have gotten Colin back in blue. They need that Manufacture's title back.
Yes they do!

What are you reading??
didn't read my post did you? go to http://www.rallycars.com

or if you can't bother for that "The WRC class cars have to be produced to very limited numbers in order to get the required FIA homologation. Production numbers can be kept below 50 units. The typical WRC class car is based upon a large volume production model"

"The limited production numbers of WRC class cars reserves them solely to competition. No street legal, "homologation specials" are needed which means, of course, that you cannot buy one."

While it would not surprise me to know that Subaru uses the STi for its base skin, an STi is still not a WRC.
Also generally speaking the Impreza WRC is still run by Subaru to promote the Impreza base car - not the STi. Hence it being called the Impreza WRC and not the STi WRC.

There was a really good article in RallyXS about a year ago about the (Impreza)WRC rebuilds... wish I still had a copy of that....

I understand what you're saying. I was getting confused with the Sti thing, while it is an sti shell, it's a Wrc car wich is not sold to the public. lol. I thought you were saying that is wasn't started out as an Sti.

another interestin point about the wrc cars based off production vehciles be it awd or fwd from the facotry is hyundi. they ran a accent wrc car a year or two back and its based off a fwd platform but it was awd 2.0L turbocharged....i think the thing the wrc cars have to be to be eligable is based off a production car....aka it has to look like one :) i luv wrc but havent catched the new '04 season....im glad mistu returned and i hope they get their evo back into the winners circle...and about peuguet (sp?) takin all the evnts.....they invest several million more then any other manufacture in the wrc.....they have been for the past several years.....last year was a basic peugeout (sp again lol) mop up in my opinion.....i found myself wantin citeron to win lol since my beloved evos were out ......anyway good thread.....(heads over to tv guide to see when wrc is on )

Rally Mexico's coming up in a few weeks... I can't believe there's a WRC round so close to me and I can't go see it! :'(

Sucks... wish I'd known they weren't going to use the Mille Piste system sooner... I would have tried harder to get there... too late to get together the funds/vacation now... :(

I love rally, Rally Mexico is 2 Sunday's from now at 10 pm. The new format sucks ass though, comes on at 9 pm, half hour updating...9:30-10:30 rally and they still take forever to get to the actual recent stages. I hope that was just a trial with Rally Sweeden and they aren't gonna keep doing it because it sucks. They need to get back to 2 hours of just rally. The best was the last rally Nicky Grist appoligised for being sick.(rofl) He is such a nice guy, and verry classy...I would like to meet him. (so I can drive his 22B)

I miss the leg-by-leg coverage we had in 02... They just keep cutting it down. Now that WRR is gone to its going to be even harder to follow things....

Nicky is a great guy - We saw him in Wales at service and when my friend squealed (she has a rather shrill squeal I might add) at him he turned and waved at us and said he liked our (RallyGB) hats. I wish we'd thought to ask for autographs or pics or something... we didn't spot him again for the rest of the trip.
