evos are overrated in my opinion! if you guys hate the msp so much why don't you just sell it and buy an evo or sti?

how are evos overrated? awd? stock internals can handle up to 500 hp? they come 250 whp stock! but to answer your question im a full time college student and ive already invested a lot of time and money in the msp, unfortunately i did not know beforehand how much work this thing was gonna be. 140 whp stock, small turbo, weak motor, i mean come one plenty of people throw rods at stock boost how do you back that up? I would lose my ass on this car so im stuck for now. now i dont hate* my msp like you said i just think mazda ****** up the build and if you want to disagree fine. there great handling great body. but you might as well build your motor as soon as you get it. trans is iffy after 300hp. the infamous clunk and some seem to go to hell in a handbasket once there modded.

i feel evos are overratted first because everyone seems to have one, i see them quite a bit. everyone has their opinions on cars though. i understand that mazda did screw up with not forging the motor and letting the car go with problems, but to me i can deal with that, but i dont really think id buy a different import other than mazda, just my preference i guess. next car will be a ms6 but never plan on selling my msp

i wasnt trying to argue with you or anything i was just trying to make a point. you are right though in that everyone has there opinion on cars. everyone in the tuner market has an evo because hands down its between that and the sti. ive seen multiple people on this forum go from an msp to an evo, even meet one in discospeed. I never said anything wrong about other mazda builds. i like ms3's and the ms6's. im just saying you dont get as much out of the msp as you do other vehicles. unless your building the motor yourself its an easy 4k not counting your basic mods and an upgraded turbo and even than you may get 350 to 400 whp when with evos you get that with bolt ons. im not trying to bash on msp' or owners of them which include myself im presenting facts to this question. but dont get me wrong i love my msp because its rare, the body looks great and it handles like a charm.

Sorry I will never buy anything mitsubishi. The evo might be a good car but you cant deny they do build alot of crap cars. Any time a mitsubishi drives into my bay I cringe.

I would rather build a car any day then buy one. Anyone can buy a car and think there joe racer. You get some much more out of building it yourself. The pure satisfaction of building something and then drive and testing it (for me) way out ways the cost.(which usually isnt alot since Im doing it myself)

If i could do all of my car buying over again the MSP would have been the FIRST car i bought. if not an MSP than a Protege5 or just a reg protege es. i love these cars. i dont care the motors are s***, i dont care the turbos to small, i dont care the LSDs break. I love anything and everything these cars have to offer. ive owned a talon, ive owned a mustang, and ive owned a STi and id still gladly trade them all in again on an MSP. Yea my subaru was fun and everyone thought it waas hot s*** just because it was a subaru but i hated that. i hate how right now every little "home boy" is wearing a monster cap or shirt with subaru plasterd all over it. its annoying. the reason i said eff the sti is because from the time it took me to eat a meal in wendys i saw three wrx's and two sti's, that was all the more reason i needed to sell it. i just love how rare the MSP is and how not every 18 year old kid is running out to buy one or even better have mommy and daddy buy them one. i hope with all of the horror stories people read about the MSPs it keeps all the people who dont actually LOVE and APPRECIATE the cars away... **** um! :)

hmm i feel like this was kinda a poke at me if youve been reading this thread. If i didnt LOVE and APPRECIATE my car i would have sold it along with all my parts and lost a couple grand. i LOVE the look of the msp, i LOVE and APPRECIATE the rareness of the msp, and i LOVE and APPRECIATE the handling of the msp. i just made a point and if you cant take it than thats fine. it wasnt a stab at your or any other msp owner. facts are i have never seen a car with such a s*** tune from factory, i havent seen cars throw rods at stock boost like the msp does (quite often) i havent seen so many lsd's just randomly decide to break at normal cruise and the list goes on. i was saying from a performance stand point, there are better and other options, idc if every tuner has one, there is a reason why every tuner has them and yes even the little 16 year old ricers go cry to mommy and daddy cause they know why everyone has them. i can name 3 to 4 people off the top of my head who have went from an msp to an evo from this forum. why do you think they did? im tired of arguing over this, as car enthusiast you should be able to view cars as a whole and not take things so personally when the car you own has its many flaws. when i point out these flaws it doesnt mean i dont love my car i am just sharing facts to the question. handle it! having said that I do love my msp or else i wouldnt have dropped almost 4k in the thing already and i wouldnt be about to go down to cincinnati to pick up my pope downpipe today :) my plan is to build my msp because i LOVE and APPRECIATE it. if i didnt love my car would i really be spending that kind of money on it? im just trying to fix mazda's **** up

I didnt call out anyone out on here and i feel like you just did that to me which is pretty ****** up. You don't know me, and you don't know what ive been through to get a mazdaspeed protege. I drove all the way to bristol tennesee thinking i was picking one up last august it didnt work out that was a 14 hour road trip that day and a couple hundred dollars, i made FOUR trips to kentucky and finally picked up one. so dont say i dont love and appreciate my msp i went through alot just to get that damn thing. and when i got it i have to admit i was extremely disappointed. my fist car a n/a 1997 z24 5 speed with basic bolt ons would put buses on my msp today. part of that is my fault i should have listened to other people but i was stubborn and got one anyway because i wanted one that badly. i could have went and picked up a honda or a skittle cause trust me there are many around here. so dont point the finger at someone you know nothing about when i am sharing FACTS with you and you cant handle them.

Was not ment as a stab at you at all. i was just saying in general. i know where your coming from and im not arguing that evos and stis arnt good cars or even that you dont like your MSP. I guess it just comes down to the fact that if your looking to make big power cheap and easy, dont buy a MSP. thats the only reason to get upset about the problems mazda overlooked. i expect nothing from my MSP so therefore i cant get upset about it. it is what it is to me. yes it may be slow but in my opinion it looks better than 75% of the cars that beat it. and no matter what way you cut it its still a rare production car and thats another huge reason i love it. but that wasnt a stab at you or anyone else... that is unless your parents bought your car. in which case it is a stab at you but only because it never happened to me. :-P

again i wasnt calling you out... and i can handle the "facts".... i know all about the "facts." i was just stating my opinion. :) which im allowed to do. you seem to be the only person on this thread truely upset about things... take a chill pill homie.

good so we all agree the car looks great and there rare. along with the flaws they come with. i just tried to present some insight to the question and i think some people took it offensive and the wrong way. would i ever buy a msp again? i said maybe so just to make it clear i am not the owner of a car which i hate I am an owner of a car that i love but was disappointed in because i came into expecting a little more now i work my ass off to make this car look great and go fast... well kinda

I would consider buying another Mazdaspeed if I crashed mine driving home today because they are relatively inexpensive on the used market. Maybe I've just been lucky, because I have not had a single problem with the car that was not caused by something I did. The only time the car sucked was when the previous owner had a huge FMIC on it on stock boost. I took everything off and sold it and the car was great from then on.

My only other choice if I crashed today would be a Mini S, only because it gets 36mpg hwy, but on the other hand I would have to cough up twice as much cash to get one. You can't beat the price per performance and looks of the MSP in my opinion.

If I could do it agian.. .I would never purchased my MSP and just kept my auto P5 and built it.. Im sure that would of been less issues involed going that route for me.

Yes maybe less issues involved but the same issues down the road. although i have noticed for some reason it seems regular proteges dont seem to have as many problems as us. i mean no-zoom has over 100k on his car and he sometimes boosts like 11PSI and beats the balls off the car and the damn thing just seems to love it. dont understand it.

yes and no... yes same design flaws for the most part.. however no car payment to fix flaws... my current msp was well a lemon and has been issue after issue after issue... by the time I've gotten it to run 100% right everythign will be replaced except the engine itself. I have the suspension and throttle body to go for that to be a 100% true statement.

Based on my experience with mine I would buy another one. Bought mine brand new and its been extremely reliable and inexpensive to maintain. It was a lot of car for under $20,000 at the time. No buyers remorse here.

I've owned the MSP since August '06, its been pretty good to me for the most part. Its had some small issues here and there, but its been very reliable. Its a fun little car, but I would not buy another one. If I had to do it over, I would have bought an '02 WRX instead.

i understand mazda didn't put the greatest effort into the msp, but it is what it is, enjoy it. I understand the point of problems if it happened when your bought it brand new, but its 8 years old now and its bound to have problems. With all the problems MSP's have i don't really have a complaint with my car
