A Miata isn't a downgrade. It's just a different kind of fun.
I have a 1992 Miata that is a little tweaked. It serves as a fun Sunday car and it's earned quite a few trophies in regional SCCA competitions.
I've driven it to Florida quite comfortable, but that was before the racing seats. I also drove it to Deal's Gap and spent a weekend down there tearing it up.
I'm up to 120K hard miles on this car and it keeps going strong. It's finally due for a clutch, which I am sure I prematurely ruined towing a trailer, and it's time for a water pump/timing belt/camshaft seals/slave cylinder overhaul; All of those things are really easy to do on this car. I just need a free weekend and a couple of six packs!

ROFL - My wife just walked by and saw this pic over my shoulder as I was checking this thread. Her exact (she does not know anything about this thread) comment was, "That's Cute, What is it" I said it was a Miata and her reply was "S2000 is much nicer" as she walked off.
Point proven. Miata = Cute.
Not sure if the reason I would buy a car is because people think it is a Gay car and leave it alone. Unless of course I was Gay and then I would not care I guess.
Tops get slashed normally because they see something in the car they want. If you don't leave things in the open that people can see and want, then the odds of getting your top slashed is small. Besides that is what Insurance is for.
However, if you want a Miata by all means get one. They are very nice cars and great AutoX cars. If I wanted to AutoX I would get one for sure.
However, if I had a choice between both the S2K and the Miata as a DD I would go with the S2K. Why? Because I'm from Texas and take pride in my manhood and could never see myself crawling out of a Miata unless it was at the Track. Not to say your not a Man if you own one. Just saying that I'm not that in touch with my more metro side I guess and given a choice I would go with the more manly type of car vs the cute one.
With that said, beauty, sexiness, gay, cute are all in the eye of the beholder friend. What is cute to me could very well be sexy to you and vice-versa.
There are plenty of ppl that think s2k's are "girly cars" too. Forget them. If you're looking at getting something new, I say go for the miata "deal". Or if you have the money, keep the MS3 for a DD, do not mod, and you can pick up NICE AP1s for around 11-13k now. Just have to wait for the right one to come along. OR, look for a nice miata for even less than an AP1!

Yeah... like the S2K seats.
Seat locks and a perimeter alarm should help deter that some.But, look at it this way... your top gets slashed, insurance covers a new top! (alright)

Those are both highly modified track cars. Sure they look manly but not what I would call sexy. Just tough looking considering they are Miatas, but sexy. No.

Uh the CR comes in Yellow and White and I *think* maybe a few other colors? (scratch)
I think that color only comes on the CR. I think it's called "Apex Blue". So you're kinda-sorta right.

I like the S2k no doubt. not the CR. Too ricer from the factory. Now give me a Grand Prix White 03-04 and now your talking business.
yea....stock NC to S2000, i would also agree, s2k is sexier. But i am fond to modded NA/NB miatas
I do still believe the NC is a better daily driver. My personal experience with Miata vs S2k. I almost bought an s2k back in 06.
