Would Anyone Recommend Performance Chips

hahahahahahahaha NO WAY!! all these do is make your engine think it's a different temp outside, you gain when it's warmer i think, but if it gets cold then your engine runs lean and you can cause serious damage! If you want anysort of engine management get a real one, corksport sells some i believe.

I know microtech (or something like that) is a full standalone that costs over $1000. I dont realy think there is anything specific for the MP3/Protege in the way of engine managment that is plug and play. MSP have alot more options, but thats because they have a turbo.

Also, you have a MP3 ecu (has advanced timing and better powerband). There is no point for looking at "chips", since many protege owners would kill for the MP3 ecu.

The best piggy-back option if you don't want to spend TOO much money is a used Split-Second AFC. Helps you lean out your A/F ratio which helps give you a few ponies...

Generally not worth it unless heavily modded.

Don't buy cheap "trick" chips, they pretty much do nothing.

Standalone is the only way to go. But like I said only worth it if heavily modified. Eg. Turbo, Custom built engine and specs, etc..

If you're going for performance, you need a chip that can do ignition tuning. You might have some issues with a piggyback, because the MP3 ECU is octane-sensitive, which makes for a wildly variable baseline for the piggyback to modify... with a full standalone, you've got yourself some 10-20 hp (a possible 10 at top, 20 at midrange), depending on mods... a lot of people swear by Microtech.

Fuel is nice, though... good bump if you tune it right... but it's not as dramatic as the full monty. ;)

^All true, but you get what you pay for, and you WILL pay A LOT for a Microtech...
