Wiring an unused steering wheel button

My US 2010 CX-9 GT has a plastic plug covering the one steering wheel button that's not used (it's on the right hand side with the cruise control buttons).

Does anyone know if the CX-9 uses discrete wires for the steering wheel buttons, and whether one could put an OEM switch there for a homebrew use?
