Winter Tires

I need your help in finding the Brand/Size of Winter Tire for my 2003 Protege5 . I also need to know what wheels to buy. I went to Canadian Tire up here in Canada because they have a sale on but they could not line me up with the proper tire/wheel combination . Hope you folks can help me out (bow)........Thank you

ME TO FOR MY O2' P5, my stock dunlops suck ass, i think they are made from old dunlop tennis balls, the slightest rain and turning a corner at 15mph, the front wheels respond as if i was driving through a field of oil and butter... just horrid

You can go with a 185/65/R14 + 14" 5*114.5 Wheel.... Or 195/55/R15 + 15" 5*114.5 wheel...

I use 195/60/14 symperit snow tires on steel rims for the winter. I do lots of driving in snow and found these ties to do such a great job last winter. They also handle okay and drive well on dry roads. Yeah, the dunlops suck in the snow and in the rain when 50%+ worn, but do well on dry roads.

Got my snow tires and rims from discounttire.com for a good price. The steel rims they sell fit over the ES/P5 calipers.

I'm wondering why nobody wants to go a few sizes thinner like P17570R14. The thinner your tire, the better it will bite through slush and snow. 195 is just too thick. (Depends where your priorities are i guess, a thinner tire will reduce handling)

ottawa...you are absolutely correct. The thinner the tire is the easier it is to cut through the snow to the pavement. But you have to take into account speedometer error and how it fits. Take a look at the tire info in your door jamb and see what the smallest size is there. That's what I would use -- you know it will fit over the brakes and not throw your instruments off that much.

My (former) ZTS ran 205/50-16's in the summer and 185/65-14's in the winter. Yeah, they're homely looking, but around here I put more stock in getting to where I need to go come Winter.

I bought 185, 65 (or 60.. s*** dont rememebr.. i will check for later) Michelin Arctic Alpins on 15 inch steelies.. worked great. I was VERY pleased,... only concern is tread life... not too sure if they will aslt as Long as I hoped. I live in Alberta, so trust me they have had their fare share of snow eating... and on the Ice they are great for a non-studded tire... it was a toss up between these and Halekepita (spelling?) but those Ha.whatever you call them ... were just too much for the time being ($$$).

If you want a good tire for buck, go for the Michelin Arctic Alpins... and i just bought plain 15 steelies for them... cause in the snow i dont care.
