winter rims

Hi Guys,

I heard that it is recommended to put 14" rims in the winter....i found that P17570R14 would fit this car perfectly. Would the rotors fit 14" wheels or would I have to move up to 15's?

Do any of you use 14's in the winter?

some of us dont have the $$$ to buy seasonal rims, so therefore i use the stock rims all year long.

14" are too close for the rear galipers. Better off with 15". The closer the rim to the brakes, the more chances u have to get blown snow or some of that anoying frezzing rain to jam everything up and cause the steering wheel to wooble like crazy...

For winter steels, do you guys buy cheap hub caps or leave them black? I was thinking of getting a set for next winter and painting them white or silver.

Definitely go with the 15'' with 185/60-15 tires...good fit and more important same diameter as the 195/50-16 on your car.

i got 15" i just keep em black. although it looks pretty crappy. i just hate hubcaps. Everyone always tells me i am missing my hubcaps. oh and mine are 205/55 i stayed with the stock tire size. They seem to work great in the snow. Although if i were to do it again, i would buy somebody's protege/5 wheels and just slap some snow tires on. thats what i will do when these wear out. people always are selling them for cheap.

Forget about the tire size i gave you earlier...there the same diameter as stock tires, but you probably won't find that size anywhere. I checked with my sister and she put a set of 195/55-15 Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip on her Protege. I guess that's what i'll go for next winter...or maybe Michelin Artic Alpine... the $$$ will probably help my decision. ;)

dunlop tires suck, always slips on snow. not like the factory bridgestone tires.

the dunlops aren't made for winter.... dont know about the states, but in canada they cant sell u a car without 4 seasons tires. They may call it 4 seasons but anybody knows with the tread design, it aint made for snow.

The wider the tire is the better on dry pavement or gravel, on snow, rain or ice it's the opposite. Summer tires are nearly impossible to find anymore (since mid 70s), snow tires will provide adherence at -40. 4 seasons tire's compond will be very splipery at -10 (celcius) and colder. 4 Season tires tread will have a chanel for water to escape, winter tires will have their grip design to "hold everything".

Original tires will vary from US and Canada. Import regulation have rules to equip cars with "local" tires and lightbulbs. Manufactures request quotes from tire companies and they often go with the cheapest. A special batch of tires in than made for this contract and than we end up with tires that are not available anywere else than at the dealer.

phil, i don't think that 14's would fit the ms6 - i have the 14's from my 626 on the p5 right now while she's sitting, and while they look like they fit (and do on the front wheels), i'm having issues with the rear wheels not wanting to go on all the way. not sure how the brakes compare in size, but i would say that 15" is the smallest you want to go on the ms6. :)
