Windshield Fogging

Why does my windshield constantly fog?

I'm wondering if any new 2003 P5 owners are experiencing problems with windshield fogging? I have a Mica Black 2003 P5 with 3000km on it. Every once in a while, after driving for approximately half an hour, my windshiled will fog along the bottom ridge, just above the defrost vents. At it's worst, the fog extends to 2 inches in height.

I have monkeyed around with the climate control, adjusted the vent position to blow on the windshield only, but I am having no luck. The most perplexing part is that it happens in varying temperatures (i.e. mild, cool, humid, hot, etc.).

I do have an air conditioner, but I have used it for a grand total of three times in three months. My temperature control now parks itself between the cold and halfway mark on the temp dial.

Is this normal? Is or has anybody else experienced this? On a side note: I previously owned a 1999 Protege SE, 1.6 litre, without AIr Conditioning. I've noticed that my P5's engine bay generates a lot, and I mean a lot, more heat than its predecessor. Again, is this normal?

I look forward to your replies,

Do you know that anything EXCEPT FOR vent and vent/floor will turn the air conditioner on? If you leave it on for awhlie on defrost it will cause the window to condesate. Have you checked to see if that fog is on the outside of the windshield.....Thats happened to me a couple of times....
Hope this helps.......

Oh thank God

Geezer:

First, thanks for replying so quickly. I was getting concerned that something was seriously wrong and was about tot take it out on Mazda. THanks for saving me the humiliation.

Yes, condensation does accumulate on the outside of the windshield...constantly. As I have said, I generally leave my vents in the Windshield Defrost position - for lack of a better word -, except for recently. I have been running the vents through all their positions to figure out this fogging issue. Perhaps I need to sit down with a cup of tea and the Owner's Manual, and pay particular attention to the Climate Control Section.

Thanks for the info and calming me down. My car is normal.

No problem.... You'll notice that the condensation on the outside of the windshield will happen more on rainy or humid days.....
Yup, you're car is normal!

Glad I could help.......:)

In the US there is a product called Rain-X with anti fog. I used it for years on my Accord and it works great.

i have the same issue on my 02' p5.... always seems to be a hustle back and forth between the defogger, heat and AC, windows open... its like i need a navigator to fkuc with the controls all the time... i thought i was the only one...

yea i get that to ...the real easy was to think about it is to see where its hotter inside or out side your car...the ticket is uasully to rolldown the windows on put the heat on 2 then deal with the heat blast until your window unfogg, once its gone wont come back ussauly

I suspected it but didn't know for sure... the light should go on for the air conditioner in this case but I guess some dumb designer didn't think of it...
