Windshield Fogging

I've done a search on the forum about this and the most I came up with is that it's normal...dealer even said the same thing...The thing that I don't understand is why is it considered normal?

I've not seen this issue with other cars over the years, it seems that with the ac on there is defrost air blowing out creating the condensation, I could understand that if it was in defrost mode, but floor/vent mode it just seems that wouldn't effect the windshield.

So I'm wondering if any speed owners experience this too, I'm in florida so we run the ac's all the time.

I did see the 04-05 models had a tsb on the issue, but I have a 06 i sport that I'm planning on trading off this weekend for the speed. Just wanted to see if the speed had the same issues.

Has happened to me also. Did you read that TSB? They have do do so much work on your car just to stop it. Removing the dash and all, You know how many rattles and squeaks I would probably have after that. Rather have the foggy window sometimes. lol

Yea... my rear window fogs up. Not too bad, but it shows all the smudges. Not sure why it would fog up like that. Not at 70degrees outside. Kinda weird.

I might be able to answer you question but I need more information. How much of the windshield is fogging? Does the windshield fog only when you first start up the vehicle or does it happen intermittently while driving? What is the ambient temperature and humidity? Is AC on or OFF? If AC is on, do you know if you compressor is on? When the windshield fogs what mode is you vehicle in: Panel/Floor, Defrost, ect? Do you have the climate control module set to fresh or re-circulated air?

It could have to do with the Plastisizers in the plastic dash. Being in FL, the sun beating down on your dash causes the plastisizers in your dashboard to break down which in turn causes your windshield to fog up.

I work in the plastics industry and this is common, which is what your dealership might mean.

If you need more info, PM me.

Well first off...thanks for everyone's reply's...but as my friends have been giving me a hard time, my solution was found this weekend.

I picked up my Speed6 yesterday...its such a different car from the 6i...sure there's a lot more power, but it just goes on and on....The ride is smoother and quite compared to the one made here....I knew that is what I should have bought first time around, but things changed for me.

Just for info, the problems are mainly in the morning times..early. In the afternoon it would only rarely be an issue. I did look at the tsb's, but the dealer said it didn't apply to the 06...and yes I don't like the idea of them pulling the dash out.

Its a happy ending with my speed6 sitting out front, just waiting for another run down the street...funny how many people just have no clue as to what this car can do.

Thanks again.

There is a TSB on this. If your car is under warranty it will be fixed no charge.
It has nothing to do with Plastics or any other crazy stuff. Quite simply cold air id being blown onto the winsheild while the A/C is on. This causes condensation on the exterior of the windsheild due to the "Warmer Outside" temp on the windsheild. Quite simple really.

yea i love my speed 6 i have the black cherry mica and i just got my windows tinted damn it looks nice

We're all probably control freaks here, I mean who else would buy a car that ONLY comes in a 6-speed manual! :)

That said, I always liked to control the heat/AC in my car when I drove. My wife has a Subaru Forester with automatic climate control and I hate it.

I tried for several months to do my own fiddling in this car, and I was about to rate it the worst car I have ever owned in regard to HVAC... That is, until I tried always leaving it on AUTO for the climate control. I sometimes hit the rear defogger, but since I have done AUTO, I haven't had the fogging problem (admittedly one of the most annoying problems I had encountered with this car).

I'd try it on AUTO for a few days & see if that helps.

I agree. By leaving it on AUTO, I have had no problems with the windshield fogging. Just set your temp to a comfortable 75 degrees and the car does the rest. How nice is that?

I thought maybe I was just imagining that my windows were fogging up a lot but now that I've read this thread I'm pretty sure that it's not just my imagination. I live in a very cold winter climate and really hot and dry summer climate and everytime there is any type of weather like rain or even clouds, the windows fog up until I get the defroster going. It's actually really strange because I've never seen that happen before. I'm glad I'm not the only one but I think I can manage to deal with it rather than have anyone tear apart the dash of my Speed....
