Windows Just Tinted...Noticed Something New

is that not a piece that can simply be replaced? if so i wouldn't want them to refinish it, but replace it...it may look alright when they finish but what will it look like down the road...

Update #2

Today I dropped my car off at the body shop. What they did was get the paint code from the car, remove the mirror housing, and order the paint. Paint should arrive in 2-3 days. The guy said the plastic is melted enough that he will have to sand it down and possibly use putty to replace what was sanded away?

I picked my car up and they taped up the hole left from removing the mirror and housing. I got home and when I opened my door I noticed little minor scratches on the door frame facing the door jam...probably from removing the mirror.

Nothing big, but I thought...why am I letting it happen this way. Right now a lot of what if's are going through my head. I have less than 11 days and 300 miles on the car.

Am I overreacting at all? The repainted section will hopefully be very small and not noticable, but just the FACT that was done will bother me.

What do you guys think? Should I wait and see how it turns out, or push for a replacement? They already have my mirror and house so at this point I'm inclined to wait.

Thanks for the support,

Aster

Hope it works out for you. I'm dealing with my tint problem too. Apparently, for the rear window, instead of just using one whole sheet. They sliced and diced up 3 sheets for the back. I didn't realize it until now. Air bubbles are coming out and the rear window looks like s***. I'll deal with them this weekend.

[sorry, just needed to vent]

But, that's nothing compared to your external damage. That's messed up. Good luck with that.

If I was in your shoes. I'd keep pushing until you were satisfied. You just got the car and it's their fault that it happened anyways.

Might get ugly but in my opinion, they should replace it for you.

hopefully it will look the same when they are done.............but dude, it's a hard paint to match.

if u dont like the work, just tell them to replace the part.
even if they say no, any judge will rule the same way, so even if the thing goes to cort - they wont win.

I'd keep pushing...and no you're not being anal about this whole thing...it's your money and your new car.

That's horrible. Multi-piece rear windows were a thing of the 80's. Any reputable shop should do most rear windows in one piece. There are a few cars that are pretty tough though (New VW Beetle, Older Saturn SL2's, Olds Cutlass, and Porsche 944).

Also check and make sure your rear defroster still works. Chances are if they gave you a multi-piece rear window, they may have slicked through one of your defroster lines rendering it useless. Hopefully everything will work out.

UPDATE:

Body shop did a good job of fixing the damage.

However the body shop did not put the mirror back on my car. They sent the mirror over to the tint shop for reinstall. So let me get this straight...the guy who removed it did not put it back on. The tint shop guy who had never removed a mirror off a MSP before did the reinstall.

I stood over his shoulder the entire time. So now all is finished. The mirror is not perfectly flush with the car as the passenger mirror so I may have to tweak it.

I did however learn how to remove my door panel.

Final word is this- the tint shop did not hassle me one bit and stood behind their work.

Lesson (s) learned- I will not leave my car someplace that does not do a walk around inspection before I leave it.

"fixed" driver's side mirror housing:

As you can see a little of the weather seal is sticking out farther than it should. I may have to reseat the mirror housing to fix that.

No more podunk tint and body shops.

ummm dude.... you got screwed

the mirror does NOT look the same as it was before... notice that it is not flat anymore but it is rounded... the bastards paid more for the paint than buy a NEW mirror which costs less.... not only that, they ****** up the install and scratched up your door frame

WHY ARE YOU LETTING THIS HAPPEN

go back, and demand a brand new mirror.... they come prepainted

AWWW I'm pissed!

Sorry asterchild I'm not thread jacking your thread but I had a incident happen to me today while getting my windows tinted! (since this a similar subject) I bring the car home after getting my windows done (%20 all way around) and notice 3 quarter size pressure dents in my rear passenger quarter panel (that weren't there before!!!) Oh I was pissed! So I called the owner of the tint shop and Bitched! So tomorrow they want me to stop by to check it out. I'm going to make them pay for a dentless paint removal. ARRGGHH!

Mistakes happen. Give them a chance to make it right. If they don't, then get tough.

As far as me getting screwed...the difference is between my L and R mirror housings is negligible. I will reseat the housing myself because I'm tired of other people messing with my car.

update

Per Dr. Sound :p for the update.

I went to the window tint place today and 2 tinters got in my face claim that I got dings in a parking lot and trying to put a claim against there shop. I said "no I went straight home from the tint shop and parked in the garage and started to detail it when I noticed the dings". One of them even said "I knew you were trouble, I never should of gave you that appointment". Then the owner showed and she was totally cool about it. She said "go get the estimate and bring it back to me and I'll call my insurance company to put in the claim". I came back to the place with the estimate and she told me that I'll need 2 more estimates from 2 other places but she'll call out dent guys and have them do it at my house. Funny thing is that she had me meet her behind her shop because the 2 tinters that did my car were furious. I even told her it wasn't cool her kids were running around my car (come on now peeps its a business) while it was being tinted. She didn't try to aruge w/ that. I'll keep u peeps updated on this! :D

I'll give your advice a chance Asterchild, but after that its to the better business bureau.
