Window tint...

Have had issues with heat coming through the windshield while driving. Here in FL the sun is super strong.
Drove from Orlando to Sarasota and had sun burn on my face...

Went out yesterday and had 3m Crystaline 70 film installed on the windshield and it made a huge difference.

How much did that run you if you don't mind? We get some brutal sun here in CO being as high as we are. But, the other problem with CO is the amount of windshields we go through! Two months old, and mine already has a fine hairline crack in. I get free windshield with my insurance but, I'd have to come out of pocket to get the Crystaline 70 film replace every time.

I had the windshield on my RX-7 done about 8 years ago...Now the tint is beginning to de-laminate and breakdown. I wish I would have just used a sun shield, because I have a feeling removing it is gonna be a b****.

Never used any any chemicals cleaning, just a clean, damp chamois. I was conscious about this happening and tried to avoid it, but there's no denying that it's happening anyway...Cloudier and cloudier with more and more little bits of glitter on my dashboard.
The guy (a professional tinter with tons of great reviews) used 3M tint.

Your statement proved my doubt on those window tinting. This is the reason why I don't tint the windows or windshield, but use only traditional sun shade. It also prevents the possibility of being pulled over and getting a ticket. (boom06)

I paid 200.00 lifetime warranty...
The same guy did my Mazda6 in 07 and the back window started to bubble last year.
I called the guy and he had it replaced in a day...

I could have used Llumar for less money, but at only 1/2 of the heat dissipation.

Find a reputable guy and spend the money if you have the heat issues.

You get what you pay for. Go to a reputable, experienced person. I've always had tinted windows (30+ years in Houston) and have NEVER had an issue with bubbles or anything else (other than scratches from the kids). And if you go to someone who knows what they are doing, you'll get legal tinting and won't have to worry about a ticket.

One of the best in the Bay, and he did a great job. The problem is that almost 10 years went by and I dunno if I'd go with 3M again. Definitely wont do the windshield again.

EDIT: I'm gonna call Watson and see if he'll hook me up. Maybe there's a lifetime warranty or something.

Probably the only thing I disliked about Colorado, but not enough to never go back. I got all my windows tinted (1 shade darker than Legal) for 125$ at the Tint shop next to the Powers Liquor Store on North Powers (COS).

I have 3M Crystaline 40 on the front sides and 90 on the windshield by a local tint company with a great reputation. This is my first car that I've had tint applied so I can't speak for long term review, but living in Georgia and visiting the gulf beaches the past couple of years this was probably one of the best things that I could have done. My wife's older Mazda 3 has no tint and from late spring to late fall it is all the poor AC can do to just cool it off a little. Her next car we are going to take it immediately to the Tintguy in Woodstock and have the same Crystaline or if something better comes out applied.

I would have liked to put 70 on the front, but went with the Tintguy recommendation of using 90. He said he has never heard of any of his customers getting pulled over with 90, but I could be at risk in our area with 70. The 90 still blocks out a good bit as the black dash sitting out under direct sun will feel warm and not blazing hot like the dashes on my former cars without. I am also fair skinned and have light sensitive eyes. I was able to drive down to the beach last week with my reading glasses on instead of sunglasses so even the 90 does pretty good for me. The tint guy said he could put a 40 visor on top of the 90, but I chose not to do that.

Even if I get a crack I still would pay again to have the 90 film reapplied. That is how much I appreciate the value of this film living in a fairly hot state.

Agreed, it is almost a necessity for my, the sun was just too damn hot here not to do it.... there must not be much tint on the factory windshield

I live in Phoenix where summer temps can reach 113+ in extreme cases. We can go a whole month with highs of 104 degrees. The CX-5 is white with tint and cloth seats. Cools off in a few minutes with AC on. The M6 on the other hand is dark colored with black leatherette interior so I had Suntek cxp 35 installed all around. Suntek cxp 80 on windshield. Happy with the cooler interior. AC works more efficiently.

*****Regarding windshield replacements.......my tint installer is located in a plaza. There's a separate windshield replacement shop within that plaza. Should I need a windshield replacement I'll coordinate with that windshield shop and the tint shop. Long story short my tint installer will charge me $70 out the door no tax for him to install new Carbon CXP 80 windshield tint on the new windshield PRIOR TO having the windshield placed on my car. Its easier labor for him. Cheaper for me :)

I have a question about cleaning tinted windows. My CX5 is the first vehicle I have owned with tinted windows but I understand that I can't use cleaners like "Windex" because they contain ammonia. What can I use?

Glad to see some other people doing this. I just discovered the difference in a high quality tint on my last car. There is a shop in Plano, TX that installs the Formula One brand and I had that all around including the Air80 product for the windshield...what a huge difference in how cool it can keep the car and how quickly it can cool down after sitting in the sun. Plus it reduces glare somewhat.

I just leased my CX-5 and the dealer had already tinted the car, but I already took it to the same shop to have the Air80 put on the windshield because I could notice the extreme difference already in not having it.

I've only used distilled water and a microfiber towel to clean tint.

Thank you for the replies! I have also seen online that just as long as the cleaning solution is ammonia-free that it should be okay and not harm the windows.

I just had my windshield done with Crystalline 70. The sun here in AZ is brutal. You really cannot see the tint, especially compared to the darker tint I have on the side windows, and I have not had any issues with vision. So far it appears to really help with the AC and the general comfort of interior. Great product.

There are ammoinia-free window cleaning products out there.

I thought the ammonia issue was with aftermarket tint and not factory tinted glass?
