Will's 1991 Classic Red NA6 Thread

I actually remembered to take pictures for this thread!!!

I've been slowly, but steadily working on replacing the control arm bushings, tie rods ends, and alignment bolts.

Old and new bushings:

Suspension is all gone! (Don't mind the bolts/nuts strewn everywhere I know where they all go ;) )

Front control arms with new bushings and sleeves installed:

The rear axle nut claimed a couple of my tools:

I'm looking forward to utilizing the Craftsman lifetime warranty. :)

So because I couldn't get the rear axle nut off, that means I'll just replace the bushing in the upright on the car using my handy dandy Harbor Freight press thing:

And, rear upper all done:

I also realized that I need new front brake pads. The inner pad was much thinner than the outer one:

The long bolt that attaches the RLCA to the upright is being a b**** and pissing me off. That is the only thing that prevented me from completing the project yesterday.

Get good at it so we can do mine eventually

:) I do know exactly what I'm doing now though. Haha. It's not a quick project, it would probably take a whole day.

I'd be willing to help as long as I get to kick back and point and say "Take that bolt off next." Haha.

Maybe someday... The most recent estimate is the end of May.

What the hell. I knew there was sometimes a backorder on the wheels, but this seems a bit ridiculous for the suspension.

Yeah it is what it is. I considered getting something else in the meantime, but I'd have to spend the money on the interim setup plus an alignment once it's installed. As much as it sucks, waiting is the smartest option.

I picked up ATE, acetone and a spray bottle but haven't tried it again. I was busy working on the STI getting it ready for the track this past weekend instead. I'm going to try to get it "finished" up this week/weekend though.

So I ended up getting the RLCA long bolts out with just heat. This time around I applied the heat to the proper exposed section of the bolts instead of the ends, hit it with an impact and it came out no problem. After struggling with the first one I had the second one out in literally 5 minutes.

This allowed me to replace all of the bushings and the alignment bolts on the rear of the car. The only thing left with that portion of the "winter" project is to tighten everything down and torque it to spec in preparation for the new coilovers.

The new coilovers are set to ship at the end of May! Wooo.

Evan came over Sunday to help me take off the intake manifold so that he can paint it for me! (HUGE thanks to him for both helping me get it off and painting it. :) )

Did a little baking last week. The recipe is 2 teaspoons of wrinkle black spray paint, 1 tablespoon of Miata parts and 3 cups of awesomeness.

If Will would stop dropping parts into the engine bay and loosing them it would be put back together by now...

Yeah I blame the black hole in my engine bay where everything I dropped went.

But, thank you so much for painting everything. It looks amazing, I can't wait to get it all back together.

My Miata is finally back together!

Evan painted my intake manifold, fuel rail, and intake wrinkle black and it looks fantastic! We installed the intake manifold and intake last week, but yesterday I put the fuel rail back on (then took it back off, then put it back on with the fuel lines installed backwards, then took it back off again... haha).

Since my Xidas are now 2 months late and no delivery date in sight, I borrowed my previous coilover setup from Pablo and got that installed along with new front rotors:

And... new 949 adjustable end links in the rear of the car.

It feels tremendous to have the car back together and running for the first time in months!

I ordered some BFG Rivals that will be delivered today. I'll take them to get mounted to the 6ULs tomorrow. Alignment is scheduled for Thursday. If all goes well it will be ready for the autocross in Toledo this weekend!!!
