would anything bad happen if i got a MBC and turned it up, without knowing what it was at for about 2 weeks til i can get a dashhawk or boost gauge..or would it just cut the boost off at 18psi without any issuse?

I would not do this, I would wait for the dashhawk. It will take most of the chance away that you could mess up something.

First of all, you won't even know where STOCK boost pressure is, let alone be able to tune up from it. Just wait. You don't want to even try to tune the MBC by seeing how much you can turn it up before the car hits boost cut.

alright thank you, my MBC and dashhawk are both in the mail.. i should be getting them soon :)

I found out only a few weeks ago that from the restriction on our stock tmic, the turbo pushes 2-3psi more than what the engine sees and this turbocharger can damage pretty quickly at 20+psi.... or so I have heard between the forums. 18psi with the stock tmic means your turbo is work at 20-21psi, in the danger zone.

Watch out that if you install a map clamp or boost cut defender, your dashhawk will not correctly read boost, it will only read what the ecu *thinks* it sees. Be careful with that!!

nooooooooo do not do that.

general rule of thumb, if you ask "will this hurt my car" most likely it will

i dont plan on doing a boost cut defender just yet, just the MBC right now
and i got the turbosmart MBC
i will let you know how hard or easy it is when i do it next week

When you install the MBC, take the extra time to install it right. I found the best way to install is to remove the lines from the factory boost control solenoid (one goes to the intake, the other to the top nipple on the wastegate actuator), cap off the nipple on the intake, cap off the nipples on the factory solenoid, cap off the top nipple on the wastegate actuator, remove the short hose between the bottom nipple of the wastegate actuator and the compressor housing of the turbo, cap off the larger nipple on the compressor housing, run a vacuum line from the bottom nipple of the actuator to the side of the MBC that the arrow is pointing to (arrow points to the wastegate actuator on mine...that's what it says), then run another vacuum line from the other nipple on the MBC and splice into the vacuum line that connects to the bypass valve. That way seems to have the most consistent boost pattern.

By tapping into the BPV line, you get compressor surge... Just my find when I installed it like this.

I suggest doing it right and purchasing a quick tap, and installing a nipple on the boost tube of the turbo outlet for a boost source.

Otherwise, your BPV will not respond right with a MBC inline... MBC are not meant to see vacuum. Yes, this so far has been the best setup for consistent boost, but its hurting the turbo. Do it right and get a quick tap from ATP Turbo or Street Unit.

You might want to read my thread at mazdaspeed forums . org, MS3 turbo section titled Installed Turbosmart "T"; MBCs Suck!!
