Will a Protege 2.0 Engine fit???

My 2003 Mazdaspeed3 Protege has thrown a rod and has a huge hole in the oil pan. I called an engine dealer and it sounds like the speed3 engine is so rare that they're very hard to find. I've heard that a standard Protege 2.0 will fit. Anyone who can verify that? If so, can I just have it done by a regular engine shop or will they not like that idea? I'm in Salt Lake City. Thanks.

NO. Try Mazda Recycling in Cali. Or there is Ken at PG or Kooldino at Speed Circuit. But remember this engine is also found in the MS6 and CX-7

Yes it will fit it's the same engine. I think ogsp5 saw the Mazdaspeed 3 and not the Protege, or the year. But he's right to check with Ken and Dino.

i no longer deal in used engines. best bet would be to check car-part.com

any 2001 to 2003 protege 2.0 will work regardless of if it is an automatic or manual transmission

the cx-7 has the same engine as protege?

edit nevermind... this thread is information fail

He just made a mistake, he meant MS protege.

There are a few mods that need to be made to the engine but yes the regular 2L protege motor will work as an MSP replacement. I even used a 2001 2L 626 motor. Just stick with the 02-03 motors and you'll be fine.

Don't forget he needs to swap some parts over like the oil cooler crap, that wedge tray (I forget what its called) thats inbetween the block and oil pan.

i'm buying my engine from asapmotors out of houston (where i live) they have a layaway option...i just choose that considering i have another car for the time being. Anyway, just my two cents.
