alright, maybe im paranoid, but everyone go in there ms3 and hit the mute button with the windows up. Complete silence. Now, notice that when pushing down the throttle slowly at the begining of every gear, there is a series of clicks. Ive put the car in neutral and there is no noise. At the begining of every gear, if i accelerate slowly, i hear tickticktickticktick for the first inch or two i push the throttle down. its bothering me and i dont know what it is.

or injectors. Engines are big chunks of metal with lots of little chunks of metal spinning around and going up and down real fast like.

They make noise.

I bet it's your tires. I would check each one for a rock. I have found this to cause a low speed ticking in many cars I have owned. It's either a rock in your tires or a nail.

Makes a fast ticking noise at idle? Injectors. Mine are louder than my friends evo. Well, not really, his engine is just louder at idle than his injectors. Us 3's have fairly quiet engines at idle, especially since we idle at like 700, which is why you can maybe hear them.

Once I get going I can't hear the ticking.. can't hear anything but my engine or exhaust, really.. especially exhaust if my windows are rolled down (did you guys know our cars were so loud stock? I didn't find this out until halloween, my friends and I were cruising Waikiki with my windows down and I was like "Is that me?" my friend was like "Yeah, I told you your car was loud..")

If you can hear it when you're going, then it might be something else.

nope, i can hear it when im driving...its in the begining of every gear. a series of clicks....all the way from first to sixth. there is no noise at idle or when im in neutral. But every other gear, for the first inch i push down the throttle, there is a series of clicks. i notice it more if i accelerate slowly.

i found this

It's the bracket that holds the shifter cables in place under the vehicle. it's located just forward of where the cables enter the cabin (a few inches forward of the ash tray), and is covered by the heat shield under the car. The bracket is held against the chassis with a metal clip that slid over a threaded stud. The metal clip can become loose, and when the cable moves (causing the clip to move as well), it will make a squeak or clicking noise. You need to put a nut on the stud to tighten everything up. Just pull down the heat sheild above the second cat and you'll see it.
There should be a docuemnt in one of the service procedures at the dealer, so if you still have warranty, then just bring it to the dealer.

edit: one more thing, it doesn't happen when you let off the gas because engine braking torques up the motor so the cable doesn't move. when you're on the gas (not WOT), the engine has some movement as it's not twisted against the engine mounts, which causes the cables to move.

thoughts?

I have clicks in my car as well but I have pinpointed the noise to somewhere between the front seats and the center console...not outside the car. My assumption is as I accelerate I get pushed into the seat and something rubs on something and clicks as I apply pressure with my ass.

I've found my car has an odd sound emitted from the passenger seat that sounds like a female saying "slow down!". I've found that leaving her ass at home remedies the situation. (also lowers my blood pressure)

I haven't installed the gf mod in the passenger seat yet so I don't have that problem, but I do hear its a known issue.

LOL, I upgraded to the Fiance mod and the butt dyno is giving me at least 15whp, at the cost of, "Do you have to drive like that when you're pissed?" or, "No wonder you're getting 215 miles to a tank!"

Hehehe - yep!

the clicking noise is the injectors firing. do you think 1600+ psi of pressure can come out silently ? DI injectors are noisy....nature of the beast !

It's the driver seatbelt buckle. Give it a little wiggle and it stops (drinks)

it could be a bad purge valve, i've seen them get stuck and move alot.

I bet you don't hear the noise if the car is cold?

interesting, ill see if it makes a difference from cold to warm. How could i tell if the purge valve is bad? what do i look for?
