Wierd Problem with Remote

Hi Folks,

A quick question: The remote on my key suddenly only works to unlock the door. Pressing the lock button has no effect.

Have I lost my mind, and there is an obvious explanation for this, or is it time to visit Mr. Dealer?

Thanks!

Have you tried both remotes? If it just happens with one remote, then it's that fob. Otherwise it's something on your actual car.

Regardless, yep.

Yep - what they said.

Keep in mind if you take it in for work that they will need the good keyfob too. They need it for any re-programming or programming of a new fob.

I had one bad fob that worked intermitantly. They gave me a new one and everything works great now.

I had to get another fob as well...Aboutt wo weeks after we bought our 5, the remote wouldn't lock the doors...Not sure exactly what was tried at the dealership, but upon trying to reprogram it, they ended up replacing it...

Best of luck!!!

My wife's MPV had that problem. My fob didn't work, I thought it was the battery, so got it changed, still nothing. Went to dealer, the reprogrammed it, just make sure you bring both of the key fobs w/u.

the problem with these remotes is, the battery contacts gets mashed in... what you need to do is take the remote apart, pop the battery out, you'll see 3 contact spades in a triangle... get a small screwdriver and pry them back up... put it back together and it should work

now try NOT to push the buttons too hard in the future or this will happen again very soon... yeah the buttons are too small so it's hard not to do that

My wife's FOB works great. Mine works intermittently. Sometimes neither button works, sometimes just one button works. Always seems to fix itself, and never does it for the dealer.

I'll have to check the battery contacts though.

Not sure if this is just a GM thing, but my dad's a service manager at a Chevy dealership and they've got this doo-hickey meter thing behind the service counter that they can test key fobs on. They just hold the fob next to the meter and press the fob button(s) in question, the meter indicates if a signal is being sent. Mazda service departments may possibly have a similar tester. Takes 5 seconds and is probably free.
