Wideband O2 sensor SPLICE

So I recently heard that the Mazdaspeed3 comes factory with a wideband O2 sensor. Not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, I was wondering if anyone has piggybacked a connection for a wideband AFR gauge to the factory O2 sensor successfully. I am mostly asking because I don't want to weld a whole new bung to my downpipe and buy a new O2 sensor. If I can just splice it without ill effect, I would be happy.
