Why the 2010 Mazda 3 over the 2009 Honda Civic?

Sounds like your problems are with the dealer...

Not just one experience, many experiences. I've been to the dealer at least 24 times by now visited the district manager once and called mazda direct 3 times. Mazda actually voided the warranty on half the car because "I complain too much" which just means they won't fix my problems and I have had no dealer ever actually try and fix something with or without a test drive beforehand. It's just been a terrible experience all together and I can't understand why I'm like the only person on the entire forum that has dealer problems AND car problems out the ass. (ugh)
Many of the people here are tired of my bitching but it's true. This car has posed the worst reliability and service out of any car I have ever dealt with. I mean it's been in the dealer for at least 40 days in teh first 10 months I've owned it (only 11 months ownership) and it was bought brand new as an 08.5.
I loved the thing, I want the thing, it's a great little car...but it's just a piece of crap.

I treat every car I drive wonderfully, never floor it, always on the speed limit, never idle for too long, always try to minimize shifting and maximize gas mileage. I would say my driving is nicer on the car than 99% of the people that drive around in my quaint little city.
It's definitely option B but it's more like every dealer I've been to is just terrible. First dealer busted a bunch of parts and killed my battery, second dealer never fixed anything but TSB's, third dealer got half the car's warranty voided. So far it's a 3 for 3 strike out.

I've got a bunch of details around here but I know nobody ever searches and re-typing it over and over again is a PITA. Besides that, it takes about 3 posts to include all my service records and resolutions with experiences and good detail.

I own a very slightly modded (see sig) Mazda3 S Grand Touring. Basically all the cars are the same, same body, same parts, it's just the quality of materials and engine that varies from car to car. So a 3i sedan and a 3S sedan could fall apart at the same rate. I'm not saying they will but from my experience the 3S wagon and the 3S sedan have an equivalent amount of problems but all the problems are different by most means.

Thank you, basically if you name a part I can say I have ahd some sort of issue with it. My last visit to Mazda (where they voided my warranty) it was in for 16 different issues. 4 of which were involving the brakes alone, 3 on the engine, and most of the rest were rattles or fit and finish issues that should have been fixed long ago.

There was a point where the dealer fixed my car but that was my first visit and it was for a few petty things like the headlight having a scratch on its glass lens (bi-xenons), the third brake light not working, and one other thing. But then again they ended up leaving my bumper on the floor, killing my battery, bending the hood prop, busting my battery box, and leaving greasy hand prints all over the front end that ate away the clear coat so now it's less shiny in some spots but the dealer said they couldn't see what I could...I don't blame them, that'd be expensive to re-paint not to mention how pissed I was and would be since the car was only 1 month old.

So have you called Mazda directly? Sounds like you probably got a lemon. I can't believe that they voided warranty based on you "complaining too much". Sounds like you need to get a lawyer and a new dealer.

Bad dealers can easily make issues seems 10 times worse, especially if they're causing some on their own. Sorry to hear this. I for one have never had problems with any of my 6 Mazdas. If I were you I'd move to a brand that has better support in your area. Or send a letter to Mazda outlining your issues. From my personal experience Mazda does help their customers out. If you haven't called Mazda USA directly do so because speaking through your dealer maybe giving you half the story.

I called them 3 times direct to the national headquarters. I did escalate this issue and if Mazda does resolve my problems or agree that my car is a lemon I will write a formal letter to teh highest power I can stating what I feel.
I feel my dealers do nothing to really help and the last one I went to was an hour away from me and got my warranty voided. So I'm hoping Mazda will help me directly with whatever I need but only time will tell.

hey my3needsaname...can you just direct them to your multipage thread about your issues instead of having it in here please

Def. a lemon. My cousin bought a used Mazda 3 5-speed with the smaller engine and he has had it for years - many road trips, beats the piss out of it, even shifts it into gear without using the clutch sometimes without grinding or anything (I was like wtf?) anyway so far he needed new tires and a new battery. It takes a beating.

Sounds like you got a lemon PLUS the dealer service department abused it. It's against the law to void your warranty because "you complain too much".

Sure...if I can find it agian.

Mazda3

I saw a video from one of the car mags which compared compact cars such as the Mazda3, Corolla, Civic, and a couple of American made compacts. Approximately 5 people drove and voted which car they would buy.

The Civic was #1 followed by the Mazda3.

From the cars compared, all voted for the Mazda3 as the most fun to drive.

Honda as a company is always rated higher over Mazda. That said, I would test drive both cars and compare pricing and then make a decision.

My 2002 Mazda Protege Es was very reliable. At 112,000 miles it had never leaked oil or had other major problems and had the factory clutch. It did require normail maintenance, a new hi pressure A/C hose and had an idle/ drivability problem common to the Proteges. Two tows caused by faulty aftermarket timing belt and failed alarm brain (non Mazda problems).
