Why does it take 13seconds to get to 60mph?

I don't know you or your back ground. So I'm not going to try and say you don't know anything. But what I do know is that I had my pro for 4yrs. I've been a daily poster on here sense. I also know that these guys know what the hell they are talking about when it comes to the protege. Like you I didn't believe them at first. I've been a V8 guy and an ASE mechanic for yrs. But this was the first import that I've ever played with. It took about a yr to find out that when it comes to ECU 02 sensors and MAZDAS things are just WAY different. They are not always right, but if I had to bet on a side would take theirs. But don't let them know that, they might think I respect them or something! After 4 yrs of messing around with this car I've learned quite abit about it, and well I just don't see that screw doing anything. But like I said, you can always learn something.

hey, I just recently got my 2003 p5. its completely stock and I ran it (pedal to the metal) in drive and it took a good 13 seconds to get to 60. I'm confused. I also tried it in tiptronic and it was still the same. why??? what is typical stock time for 0-60?

is it THAT slow?? when i had mine it felt pretty peppy didn't think it was 13. maybe 10 or 11. if you want speed and power, you bought he wrong car. imo, don't even think about upgrading it. just buy a new car.

Lol, its not hard to do things to these cars, however having the financial backing is a little on the more difficult part. This is where being in the military comes in handy, gotta love deployments :D

Ok, well sorry but I never made it all the way home to my house lastnight lol. But I can say if it did lean out my fuel mixture it wasn't too noticable. I raced a guy lastnight that I have beat before and got my ass kicked. He told me whatever I did I need to put it back. I think im gonna choose a bit more power over better gas mileage. I was getting better off the line though, but im racing for more than the first 60 feet here. I don't know if keeping it like this will keep the changes or if the ECU will just compensate for it later. For now anyways, I put it back.

Having the car in tiptronic mode will not change much since the trans will shift at redline on its own
no it doesn't. at least my old 03.5 didn't. i hit the cut off a couple of times and it still didn't shift.

my legacy gt otoh does.

hmm that is strange. I tested it in my ES today, and I think it is in 8-9 sec range for 0-60. The only performance mod I have is a Simota CAI.
The big brake kit didnt really help that department of course.

Ok, so yesterday I tried the screw trick on Ashlee's P5. All she has is a K&N short ram intake and a Magnaflow exhaust. Her gas mileage did get worse after we turned the screw down. And I figured out what the deal was as far as why my car it worked, but not on her car.

On my car I have a header which deletes the pre cat, so...the lower O2 sensor reads too much emissions and richens the fuel out to compensate for it. This is where I turned the screw down and it leaned it out so that I can get better gas mileage. More or less, returning it back to stock settings but manually.

I don't want to say that I was wrong, because on my car I wasn't wrong. But on a stock 2.0L or one that doesnt have a header, yes it won't work on their car.

Well im definatly not stock:) Shouln't reading more emissions lean out the fuel? Thats why on a car with a cat if you turn the screw to lean it out by the time the emissions get to the 2nd O2 theres hardly any so it adds gas and worsens the mileage. I would think that with a header you would want the O2 to get as much of rich exhaust fumes as possible without throwing a CEL to in turn have the ECU lean out the fuel.

I don't have a good answer to that one, all I know is that when I had the header on their at first, I was going through a tank of gas every 2days and it was ridiculous. And ever since I turned the screw down I have got a lot better gas mileage. And yes I do have good power under like 80mph, after about 90 or so it starts to get sluggish, but oh well, when I figure out what to do, I'll post it up.

I get better gas mileage by putting the car in neutral and pushing it on the streets or my passengers do it

Yeah, well I bet your gf can be a real killer to your gas mileage...

Yeah. I think im gonna mess around with my non-fouler a bit to see if I can get the ECU to lean out the fuel without losing the power. I did notice a difference with turning the screw, but I just didn't like the power loss. I did get rid of the raw fuel smell in my exhaust tho:)

Lmao, I feel bad for the poor guy, prolly has to use a ladder to get on top of her, haha.

Chris

Why do you think he had to get the hatch back? lmao
