Why do dealers always screw with me?

Zath,

I bought a 2004 6s MTX last june/july (04) with nothing other then the Sports package (so I could get the black interior). At the time there was about 2250 in rebates. Combine that with S-plan pricing, and you end up with a 17800 USD 6s MTX. Technically people have gotten them lower then that too!

out of curiosity, why are you looking at trading in the STI?

i think $$$$ is the issue since he might be wanting something that has a little less burden on the pocket book and it has cost him a lot so far...idk i could be wrong.

Your dead on. I pay $588/month for the STi and if I can get that payment down to $375 for a new car that I can live with then thats alot more money I can use to fix up my town house and eventualy buy a real house with.

Now that my girlfriend is out of school, she will be kicking in an extra $200/month + I will be gettin an extra $200/ month from tweeter and then PMI will shortly be removed from my mortgage adding another $100/month in savings. So if I can cheapen the car payment aswell then I can dump an extra $700/month into a new floor for my kitchen/living room and into equity for my home.

This is the letter I am writting to any dealership with a 3.0L standard.

I am looking for an 04/05 Mazda 6s with a 5 spd and leather interior. I am interested in a Red, Blue, or Black model. I am not interested in playing games on my trade-in value in any way. I want an honest estimate of its value as you will credit me toward a new car. It is the STi model that retails for over $32,000. By NADA values I owe $1000 less then what is considered fair trade in value and similar used STis are fetching $28,000+ on dealers lots.

I am looking to get into a 6 to help lower my bills, although I can easily afford to stay with my car. I am hoping to find a dealer that can get me into the 6s I want for no more then $375/month for 60 months. Nothing higher is acceptable, as its simply not worth it to me. I will be using my trade as a down payment and nothing else unless needed to secure a better finance rate but in this situation I will expect a lower monthly payment.

Let me know if this pricing is agreeable. I will not be pleased to have my time wasted.

That's the way to do it, give them your bottom line flat out, but I think it would be better to do it in person.

I agree but I will have 1 free day every 2 weeks now so I am not willing to F around with them. What I didn;t say is that anyone that tries the baiting game will have a BBB report filed against them.

that's how I got my 6.. I said I'm putting x amount down, and I will buy the car for x amount of money.. it also helped that I was supposed to get a 3 and they sold the one I ordered.

Well, I dont need to tell dealers any of that crap, since I used to be a car broker and it's practically impossible to push me around in the car market (headbang)

Sweet Jebus! you try fleet section? Another thing was get the car priced in paper and then after all that go "so...what are you guys gonna give me on my trade in?" :) Pick up a copy of CR and read over the dealers tricks into pressuring you to buy. My neon was worth 7K but dodge only wanted to give me 3K for it. seems like if you take the car back to the same make dealer you get less. well GTG i'll try and pop up again some time. Good luck man I couldn't find a STi under 26 slightly used online!

Well, the deal is done.

After doing some major dealer haggling and shopping today I got a dealer to give me a fair amount for my car and then they kind of shot themselves in the foot twice. First, the salesman forgot to tell the manager that I had gotten a quote from a different dealer on a car without Bose and a Sun roof. However, their car had one so the dealer was trying to price match to a $1200 less expensive car. Next, the manager messed up and thought he could finance me throuhg a bank they are getting good deals with but he forgot that he had already added in the $1000 mazda rebate for using mazda credit. So after it all, I got a 2005 lapis blue mazda 6s with bose system, black leather, sunroof, and the sport package body kit with spoiler. Everything rolled in (including trade, tax, liscense, documentation) I am paying $22,800 as a buying price which breaks down to $1000 down, then financing $21800 to get $384/66 months with mazda credit.

Since my credit score was shittier then I thought it was, I think I did rather well for once. The next best deal was for $378/66 months for a dark gray car without the bose or moonroof. Which I really wasn't a fan of the color or lack of roof.

is that trading in the WRX too?

We did the same thing w/our car at the dealership, except we told him that we had gotten a deal on a car w/1,000 less in options (but didn't tell him that part of course). So they matched it :)

STi, yeah.
I owed 24400 and the NADA was 25500 on the car. Most all of the dealers would only give me $23000.

Glad it all worked out for you! You got yourself a brand new Mazda 6 for far less than what they are going for here even with the conversion rate.

Glad you got your 6. I kept pushing my GF to go for the Mazda 6 but she liked the Pontiac G6 better. oh well!

Like friggen usual the deals that exist for everyone else for some reason just don't exist for me. I went to deal on an 04 Mazda6s with leather and sport package and the best they would do is $419/month + $1000 down. Totaling over $26000 as they said although my car was in great shape no Subaru dealer would give them much more then $20000 for the STi. Which is total Horshit as the car NADA's trade in value is 25,600 and I saw 2 04's on dealer lots yesturedayfor around $29,000. This bean bag actualy tried to tell me that he couldn't keep the car on the lot as people don't come there to look for subarus. At this point I was pissed and told him that it might actualy help get a customer in the door as they had almost none and everyone of them they did have spent longer looking at my car then the mazda they came there to check out. These guys were insisting that the 2004 only had $1500 more in rebates on it then the 2005.

I also went to look at the scion Tc as it was really the only other car that interested me. GOD I HATE THAT CAR. It had decent power and drove nice but was erganomicly CRAP. The seat needs to go 2" lower and the A-Pillar is WAY to close to the drivers head. Not to mention it had even worse visibility then the Acura RSX.

So once again, the deals for some reason just don't exist for me, and this time, not even friggen close to it.

I sell cars, so here goes.

$ you pay per month is a direct reflection on your...
1. Credit Score
2. Equity or Inequity in your trade
3. Vehicle sale price.
4. Money Down.

You can't judge what the dealer will give you for your car by the price of similar cars on their lot. Unless you have a WHOLESALER'S LISCENSE, you will never buy a car for the prices that dealers do. The dealer has to buy them at WHOLESALE price.

As far as people looking at your vehicle being interested, many were probably interested because they don't know what an STi is. Hell, we had a piece of s*** Avalanche that some Mexican kids painted bright green. It had stock interior, overspray, cheap ass spinners, horrible. IT got a lot of attention too, and it wasn't worth a damn thing close to what they thought it would be worth.

Just don't be so quick to jump on a dealer. YOU will never get the EXACT SAME deal as someone else, there are too many variables.

Good luck bro.

Jay
