ok WTF?? I KILL him off the line.. launching at 3500-4000 rpms... but as soon as I shift into 2nd,, my power totally dies... and every shift afterwards,, lacks power.. its as if I have noo boost... I had a car length from the launch, but as soon as we hit thrid,, he past me as if I was not even moving.. A STOCK SI!!!! the minivan looking one.... my car is stock as well, but s***... come one.. I am shifting at 6000rpms.. anyone got any ideas?

oh try these shift points next time u race:
1st 6100
2nd 6800
3rd 6900
4th 6800 if u even have to keep goin

ok,, I just realized.. when we launched.. we had mad wheel spin (cement)... when I shifted into second, I think I was still spinning.... sooooo.. that is why I bogged out in second....

JDM sam... arent those to high? all power drops off at 6000 rpms I thought... I dont know... just a thought

For most shifts I think it would be smart of you to shift while approaching the 5.5k mark. that way when you hit your next gear you will be right around the 3200 RPM just in the range of peak torque and HP

nope lets see i used these shift points and i pulled the current time on my sig. try that with ur shift points

ull prob hit like a 16 17 second 1/4 shifting at 5.5 k rpm and be in 5th gear before the runs over which shouldnt be happening...

Is it ok to let the clutch slip a bit when youre trying to accelerate faster?...I'm sure its not good for daily driving..but when you're racing and need to keep the power up?

if ur shifting fast enough u should only have a 1000 rpm drop. keeping the rev up is pointless as ull be over ur power band in ur higher gear which is useless also cuz ull be outta ur power in that gear sooner than u supposed to be. thats why u need to shift at certain shift points. leave the car in the strongest gear as long u can till u have to shift

The peak torque isn't until roughly 3,800 and the HP doesn't peak until around 5,500. If you look at the HP curve you'll see that even though it falls off @ 5,800-5,900ish the decline is less dramatic meaning you're still making more power after peak than before.

I agree with JDM Sam, I tried numerous runs, gradually increasing shift points and netted a best of 15.23 @ 90.3 with stock air box @ roughly the same shift points he used.

It doesnt have anything to do with shifting. The sorry ass ECU is just dumping so much fuel the car is falling on its face. RICH, RICH, RICH, I said it before and Ill say it again; YOU HAVE TO PICK YOU BATTLES IN THIS CAR. Sometimes it halls ass, and other time feels like a non-turbo. This is especially true in hot weather. The low the charge temp the more fuel you will need = more power you will make, The hotter it is, the higher your charge tempture will be and the richer it will run = Mazdaspeed stumble. This is the whole point of intercoolers, and upgrading them. This is just another case of the poor excuse of a fuel & timing map the Mazda gave us. I worked hard the other night to take an MP3, 6k rpm the whole time and didnt get a substantial pull till after 90mph, WTF. Mazda better come thru with a fix soon! A 20k protg thats turbo half the time, and N/A the rest:wtf: . I FEEL YOUR PAIN BROTHER!

So you think an intercooler upgrade would solve these issues? Or would you also need better fuel maps, etc...

I dont think it will totally eliminate the stumble, but it will help the Speed run better in the Hot weather. A better fuel Map is the key here.

guys you need to try a water injection set up in the manifold to cool the aircharge. it is a well worth investment against detonation and help you in the stumble area
