why can't I find a 2009 manual 6

I've been waiting for the 2009 model for the last two months (largely because I need to buy a car made by the UAW [long story - job requirement] and I want a sporty car with a stick shift). Now they're finally out and I can't find a stick shift ANYWHERE (I'm in St. Louis). Yesterday, a Mazda dealer told me that stick shifts aren't even being made for the first six months. This sounds like nonsense to me - they're reviewing them after all - and they sell more sticks than autos in Canada from what I've been told ... but I have to say they sure seem scarce. Does anyone have any advice? If I really can;t find a manual for six months then I'm going to buy another car. I just can't wait that long - and I don't want an auto. I'll just bite the bullet and shell out for the manual CTS.

any help?

Go online to the mazdausa.com site, and chat with one of the live online mazda helpers, they should be able to find one for you in your area.

(How much you wanna bet that same dealer that said it's going to be 6 mos, also has a few 08' Mazda 6's he would love to sell you.)

Thanks - it would be nice if the Mazda dealers had 1/10th of your knowledge. They seem completely clueless. I had one salesman swearing to me that you can get a manual 2009 six cylinder. I finally made him look it up and he admitted that he was wrong. ... i mean for the love of god. they only sell like - what - 8 models? How hard is it to get your basic info straight.

(actually - i suspect that the dealer wants to sell me on a 2007 mazdaspeed 6 .... which i would buy in a heartbeat but - alas - its not made by the UAW - so I would be fired. I'm a lawyer for the UAW - they're pretty strict about that crap).

Strict enough to tell you how to spend your money on something for personal use?

lol....

Your a lawyer?
And this makes enough ethical sense to you that you agreed & signed your name?

wow......

^^True, but still bulls***. You can do the CTS? If it were me I'd be all over it, but only a black one. Good luck!

pick up an older 03-05 mazda 6S. they were made by UAW at auto alliance, and came with the 5 speed MTX. plus the 03-05 grand touring sport were by far the best looking 6's made IMO. they had the lowest skirts EVER, and sportiest front 2nd only to the mazdaspeed.

Well, I would suspect since the car is just being launched (shipments started about 2 weeks ago) that they want to get as many vehicles out as quickly as possible. With that being said, the auto crowd is easier to sell to, so I would suspect that most cars coming off the line are gonna be autos to fill initial orders.

I know with the first gen 6, the market for the manual trans. was very small (<5% IIRC).

plus we already know that the v6 isn't even available in a manual, so thats gonna drop the number down quite a bit. people are going to settle for auto for the v6, even if they wanted the stick.

I drove a manual the other day. Meh. I wasn't that impressed. I think my problem is thus: I'm currently driving an (old but great) integra vtec 5 speed manual. The integra is hardly a bimmer but its still a true sports sedan. The Mazda just doesn't come close. Less power. Far less road feel. floats more.

I think I'm asking too much of the new 6. Its a sporty midsize sedan - its NOT a sports sedan. Its is a snappy - fun to drive - well put together - good looking mid size sedan. I still think I'm buying one. I'd rather have a 3 to be honest but - alas - its not made by the UAW.

as for the older models - I would love to get a older - manual mazda 6. I'd kill my mother to get a manual 6 cylinder 6. (I cannot buy a mazdaspeed - made in Japan). But I can't find those either ... does anyone know how I could find a used manual 6? Are there good websites? All the sites I've looked at have turned up nada.

if anyone has an answer please let me know pronto ... I have to buy soon. My e-mail is markleinauer@hotmail.com

No damn company going to tell me what to buy with my money, not GM, and certainly not the UAW (the new GM middle management).

I worked GM/UAW 14 years and took a buyout July 1 of this year. The union there is as contemptable as the company, if not moreso.

Thanks, GM, for the $140,000. It helped me buy my '08 CX-9, which I use in my work as a bail bondsman. Hell, I've had people in my CX-9 on their way to jail and still comment on the nice ride.

That's all I was saying.

I could easily understand the requirement if the employer was providing a company vehicle for your use. If spending your own money I feel the situation changes.

To the OP, as your already commited to this path, I wish you the best in finding the car you want
(that your employer says your allowed to spend your money on.)

The new 6 is a disappointing drive. No character, lighter steering, softer suspension...the driver and car are not connected like with the 1st gen.

I'm really amazed at the response to the UAW's "must drive one of our vehicles" requirement. Yes I find it annoying but how on earth can anyone say that the requirement is unethical - No one is being "forced" to buy a UAW car. Taking the job is optional. If I don't want the requirement - I don't take the job. Its really not the complicated. Some people on this forum have a very strange notion of ethics.

and more to the point - in the real world whether I'm forced to buy a UAw vehicle or not is really immaterial. Fact is that I'm representing UAW execs. Its not exactly smart politics to pick them up for court in a Honda. I used to work for Budweiser too. There was no requirement that I drink Bud with them when we go out but you'd have to be a grade A idiot to order a Miller. .. were's all this anger coming from ...

You may be forced to look at the Mazda 6i VE for a manual transmission. I did, but you shouldn't listen to me, because I'm a grade A idiot.

Miller Lite please! Cheers!

this is really getting out of hand - I never called anyone an idiot. Far from it. please re-read my earlier post. .. I don't even come close to calling anyone an idiot.
I was called unethical - and an unethical attorney at that (which by the way - is a very serious charge to make against an attorney) because I agreed to take a job that required me to drive a particular type of vehicle. Obviously that bothered. Largely because it didn't make any sense.

and I'm aware that the manual is only available in the 4 cylinder models. My problem was that I couldn't find any.
