Who's staying stock?

Who has no plans to modify their car? While I'd like to, I am a bit burned on the fact I've modded about every car I've ever owned. I am over dumping tons of money into something I've already paid tons of money for only to lose all of it and then some when I sell.

On a side note, the EMS that vishnu is putting out really tempts me. (first)

I'll prob eat crow with this post in the near future, but I intend on staying stock.

I screwed that up in the first week. Hello AWR mount, redline shift boot, and protegegarage TMIC.

I intend on staying stock, (no power/ chassis mods)
except for a set of better tires.
I'll get the windows tinted which is a requirement for my eyes,
and I'm sure some plush toys will mysteriously appear in the cabin
(I don't know why girls have to decorate someone else's car -_-;; ).

I didn't have my car for more than 12 hours before I had the Buddy Club condenser and TWM short shifter in. I am on the other side. This is the first car I to which I will be doing any meaningful modifications. I plan on keeping it for a looooong time.

im 50-50 right now

this summer planning on going thru multiple sets of BFG drag radials...but with my civic project and R1....like i said..im 50-50...if the COBB acesspoint is promising...its a good possiblity.

but goal is 13.5 on a drag radial stock...if i hit it..i'll stay stock..

How long is a looooog time for you? I've never owned the same vehicle for more than 4 years mainly because I don't know a whole lot about the mechanics, and I didn't feel like paying for repairs out of my pocket. ^_^;; MS3 will be my first Mazda, so I hope it'll be reliable.

I think 2 years is my max on daily driver cars. It's not a matter of mechanics, it's a matter of boredom. Seeing as how I am filthy rich, I can lose my ass everytime I trade one in or sell. At least, that's what I tell myself.

Good question. I don't know how far I'll go with the mods on this car. I know I WILL NOT go with the CAI, as I absolutely hate the BOV sound you get from them. I'll probably go with a rear sway bar, better wheels/tires/brakes stuff for track days, and maybe an exhuast (as long as it doesn't sound like a fart can.) I'll also likely invest in some Dynamat to deaden the engine drone. This car is quite noisy.

Interesting thread. I am shopping for an MS3 now and my plan would be to keep it stock. Modding is fun but there are other important things to spend my limited budget on (including buying/renovating house) so my current philosophy is to buy the best car I reasonably can, enjoy it stock and then, when I get tired of it, buy a new, better car -- starting the process all over. I think this'll be cheaper in the long run and enable me to have lots of great cars rather than modding and feeling like the car was part of me (makes it hard to sell--not to mention recoup the money spent on mods).

In the long run, I think you save money by buying a better car to begin with, not modding it but then selling it and trading up when you're ready for a new one. A couple years ago I did the math on this and it was amazing. I think I compared buying a Protege, modding it and selling it in 3 years with buying and selling an unmodded BMW 325i. The 3-yr cost was very close but the BMW was the better car. This was only a math exercise so maybe not accurate but it made me think I should just buy the right car next time I make a purchase, not some car that could be the right car with this mod or that.

Nothing against mods--I love them and will probably end up modding any car I buy but I am hoping to be more thoughtful and disciplined about my next car.

The BOV sound is noise you get you let off the gas to release pressure in the pipes hence Blow Off Valve. (and whats the point of getting a turbo car if you don't want that sound. How pointless).

And yea it does come with a tuned exhaust but it is still factory. There will be better exhaust systems out there with like 3" piping for better flow.

Haha wow. I don't know what to say about this comment. Honestly whats the point of going turbo. The sound from the blow off valve is the only reason I want turbo.

After picking up and driving my cosmic blue MS3 last night, I know for certain I'm staying stock. Any added droning from the back will drive me nuts. ^_^;; I couldn't really hear the turbo though. Perhaps because I haven't opened up the throttle above 3k? (trying to take it easy) -_-a

Huh???? The point of going turbo is the power and ease of modification - not so I can sound like some retard in a rice bucket going PPPPSSSST!!!!! WAAAH!!! PSSSSHPHT! down the road. It's obnoxious and useless.

I plan on staying mostly stock. I'm going to get the full Mazdaspeed kit and have it installed by a Mazdaspeed dealer so its under warranty. I'll get the Cobb AccessPort but thats prob it. I need this cars reliability for winters and work. I've got an RX-8 to toy with

I am leasing so I am limited to what I can do.
Only thing I have done so far is change the oil and put in a better air filter.
Will be getting better tires soon.
Got 20K miles on my 05 MZ3.
