Who's blown their MSP motor and why?

I agree with the "piece of mind" bit. I used dino oil while I was breaking it in, but now I change my oil with Mobile 1 5w30 every 3k. I costs me ~$25 every time, but I never have to worry about it.

I've never lost a drop of oil between changes, so it seems to be working for me. I want to check my compression soon. I'm willing to bet they are all dead even.

Not to mention the 3k mileage thing is suggested by oil manufactures and dealerships, right? Why do you think that is? ;)

Actually my MSP and MZ3 owners manual both say change every 5k miles. And some of the synthetic oil makers say there syn stuff is good for over 10k but it is not sugested. Maybe its all just a bunch of corporate crap..lol But i try to change mine between 5 and 6k.

im fortunate to not have blown a motor yet. mines held up pretty good. got 73k miles on it now. ran open s pipe and 9psi for 7 months 30k miles and had no problems. car is back to stock for the time being. that will change soon though. i try not to boost or heavy throttle it in 5th also. thats a lot of load on the engine. im always hard on the car though constan full throttle accelerations, rev limiter speed shifts into second and third not even letting off the gas a tad. it takes whatevers thrown at it.

$25? How do you get a filter and Mobil One for that cheap?

How many miles are on your engine? Why would you assume it should be burning/leaking oil if you were not using synthetic? Just because it does not does not necessarily mean changing synthetic every 3k is what is keeping it from doing so.

Ive got near 40k on my car and would say I change the oil around every 6k. I dont burn/leak any oil either.

PureOne filter from Pepboys = ~$5
Mobile 1 = $5 / qt. (I always seem to find it on sale) X 4

~$25

I have 52k miles on my car. I don't assume that synthetic is the reason my car doesn't burn oil (it's because I broke it in well), but I can tell you 100% for sure that if it ever did go bad that it's not due to poor oil maintenance. To me it's all about PREVENTING issues rather than guessing that it will be alright. Some people think that saving a couple bucks every couple of months is worth the risk. That's fine for them, but I for one would rather do the best and KNOW FOR A FACT that if something fails that I don't have to investigate my oil change schedule.

I'm glad that your car is fine, but there are a ton of people that burn oil like a 2-stroke. These cars are finicky and I'd rather not find the maintenance threshold the hardway.

It's not a risk to not excessively change your oil though. That's what I'm trying to say.... Not overly doing something does not create any sort of danger.

PureOne, eh? Those any good? I usually use Wix and I think they're a few bucks more than that. I also think you're paying less than I do for the Mobile 1than I am.

Yeah, I pretty much luck out and find Mobile 1 on sale every time I do a change. I end up buing a case and have some left over for next time.

PureOne is the premium version of Puralator. From what I have seen they are some of the best. The filter out extremely small particles. I've never heard of Wix, but I pretty much stick to what's available at the places around my area.

I have been trying to find an adaptor for the FORCEFIELD attachment from Boss Products that I have here. It's a magnetic adaptor that is supposed to make the oil even cleaner than when it comes out of the bottle. Anyone that knows about the PPM standards of motor oil knows that there's still a bunch of crap in it when it's new. My studio did a bunch of promotional videos for these and I'm totally sold after seeing the test data first hand. I still have one left over, but I need the correct adaptor to make it fit.

With all the money spent on early and frequent preventative maintenance (oil, oil filter, spark plugs, etc ) at around $30+ each session ... you might as well cut back, and save up for some EMS. It will run your MSP alot better than your stock ECU and all those supporting mods that you got for your car will actually work together, like they're supposed to.

i change my oil and filter every 3000 miles (with royal purple) and every change the oil is black when it comes out. is there something i should be concerned with? theres no deposits or sludge that drain with it. the oil is just black.

just curious im eventually goin to be in teh market for a msp and im not goin to do much for modding. just the basic boltons. intake, and the exhaust. i might get a fmic and hard pipes and i was wondering i knw its goin to need to be tuned. im not sure wht to get for this but thts another question intirely with these mods is it possible to blow it up even with the tune. im not much on racing so i wont be beating on it but i figured id ask to be safe.

I have almost 102k miles on my MSP and it has seen up to 15-16psi a few times for the drag strip. I change my oil ever 3-5k depending on the amount of time it has been. I drive a lot so every 3k miles would be like once a month pratically. I always check the oil levels and add some if its lower- which it is cuz I have a leaky turbo line. I have put this car though a lot and it still keeps on going with only a broken LSD under its belt so far. I get free oil changes from my dealership every 5k miles and one time I went in for warrenty work plus an oil change, then the next time I took it in 5k miles later they were like , oops we forgot to change it last time so it has been 10k miles since your last change. That is when I started doing it myself again, but anyways it has been ok.
