Who Is Running Gtx Gears? Results? Ideas? Hp?

i mean i really would have no objection to it if it was cheap, but it's one of the more expensive mods/upgrades if you include labor.

bleh, after i've completed all scheduled mods/upgrades, tranny work would put me over $15k, figuring 5k for just the tranny and labor. that's just crazzzzzzzzy

5K??? why so much? Even Nicks built gear set is around $2,800 and its the most expensive work around.

GTX gearset with labor is around $500

$5k for tranny and labor?? only if you plan on going with Nicks tranny upgrade. If you do the gtx upgrade and turfburn lubrication setup, it'll be a lot cheaper and be enough for prob 450whp I would say

i only work with Nick, so yeah i would probably get his upgrade as opposed to gtx, unless i see a reason not to

I wouldn't do first and second because first is a lower gear ratio than our stock (and it will just wheelspin even worse) and 1-2 usually don't have problems, they are almost double the width of 3-4-5.

I think it works opposite:
Gear Ratio RPM at Transmission Output Shaft with Engine at 3,000 rpm
1st 2.315:1 1,295
2nd 1.568:1 1,913
3rd 1.195:1 2,510
4th 1.000:1 3,000
5th 0.915:1 3,278

So basically you will need more power and your wheels will spin slower allowing for better traction.

Hrm... ON the pgt, the first gear is 3.3.. If it is true that it 2.315 then thats great I must have gotten erroneous info off of the other site. They said that the gtx trans first was a 3.4.

IF this is true it would be great to get the first gear then.

No these numbers are not for gtx awd tranny they are just an example that the lower your ratio is the more power your going to need.

I can't find the right ratios for the gtx awd tranny.
Edit: I think I found them
1988 GTX AWD
1 : 3.31:1

2 : 1.83:1

3 : 1.23:1

4 : 1.07:1

5 : 0.80:1

Final Drive : 4.11:1

MSP
1 : 3.307:1

2 : 1.842:1

3 : 1.310:1

4 : 0.970:1

5 : 0.755:1

Final Drive : 4.105:1

those ratios are for teh 88/89 BF chassis. the 1990+ runs different gears - that's the 4wd that wasn't sold in N.A. I"m still unclear whether it's the BF of BG chassis gears that fit properly?

I bought 5th 1988 GTX AWD so if I'm able to install it I'll post it and take a few pics.

If the 5th from the GTX works, then the 5th from a 88-92 626 will also work (see here: http://rxtrme7.aaph.com/gtx/gears.html) and might might make it a longer gear for street driving. I plan on doing this swap on my GTX to drop the rpm on the highway. NOt sure how the different final drive will affect things though - I'll leave that to the math wizards...

I've seen that link but that is refearing to a non awd model and that's the one we are talking about on this thread.

GT and GTX trannies both work for this swap - many many guys on the 323 board with GTXs have done it. (www.mazda323performance.com) I think the "how-to" was just done on the GT. Both cars came with the B6T motor and the same transmission.

Hmm. OK, then I stand corrected.

Still, if the 626 5th gear fits into either the GT or GTX transmission (not contesting/commenting on the strength of the gears), and you're pulling 3rd, 4th, and 5th from the GTX into a 3rd gen Pro, then the 626 5th will also fit in the 3rd gen. right? I'm just trying to provide another option of a different ratio 5th so you don't rev quite so high on the highway as the GTX 5th would.

nope. I'm not going to have enough power to make it worthwhile. But I am going to think about putting the msp gears (or at least the P5 gears) in my GTX for better gearing on the highway and maybe in the dirt too - I'm gonna have my clutch out in the next 6 months anyhow so might as well do it then. I'm not worried about ripping either gearset apart, since neither car will likely have much over 220whp by the time I'm done.
