Who Is Running Gtx Gears? Results? Ideas? Hp?

No, you just press the gears off the shaft and press the new ones on.

Can you tell what i did today? ;)

So, its pretty well confirmed that any G-series trans will accept any other G-series trans gears...

I looked at the protege case, and wow, its really identical to ours! Cept we come stock with the bigger axles, most proteges end up with the smaller axles.

We have been putting MSP diffs in PGTs for quite a while. Works just fine..

BTW, the Festiva 5th will also fit, its like a .69 for you top speed/high mileage guys. ;)

You mean they don't fall apart like they do in our cars? Do you weld them up?

Well, seems the redesigned ones are pretty good as-is, but, ya, almost everyone who has done it welds them.

I have a welded one and it is pretty good. I am a little disappointed with its locking ability but its better than an open diff.

Well, I know turfburn sells them, but, I wanted them quick so i went to the dealership :)

I know enough about these g trannys to have a good feel for what fits and what won't, so i ordered them anyway and they came in so i paid extra to get them quick. Working in the automotive field I also know that manufacturers are cheap and make one set of gears and shafts and try to figure out ways to fit the same parts into as many different cars as possible. :) Gear tooling is expensive, so, there is always a good chance that gears can be swapped amongst platforms.

BTW, there is a solution for the cracked cases too, that the pgt guys been using for quite some time called a trans bracket. I think it will work for you guys too, or could be modded to work pretty easy.

I got one and havent' had a whimper. It essentially is a torque plate.

I was thinking about this the other day and remember igdrasil posting about it. good thing this thread came up so I dont have to search. the gtx gear set along with turfburns aided lubrication system(is it out yet turf?) should be a great for those not able to spend the money on Nicks tranny

does the GTX come with sturdier synchros as well? Does anyone have a complete list of gear ratios for GTX and MSP?

is there any part #s or what do i ask for from the dealership? thats for all the help

G501-17-240H that's 3rd & 4th for the 1988 323 gtx awd they come together and the dealer price is $165.95.

What about 5th? ;) I didn't get 5th but I am debating about doing it before I seal up the case and a few hi hp KL v6s have mangled their trans in 5th boosting at highway speed.

Get 5th too I just don't have the part# for that one maybe you can post that if you get it.

Correct me if i'm wrong since I'm a newb, but wouldn't turbo lag actually be better for transmission during launching, as opposed to having a turbo that's upgraded that spools a lot faster?

450-500 is with labor included, you pay shipping. I can do this for you, but you will need to send a core. If you can open the case, just send the internals.

Remember this is a workaround of breaking gears for anything over 350whp, its not that its going to be bullet proof. If you are pushing over 450whp and its usual to powershift using slicks, theres a chance you may blow a gear.

See, most drag cars use BIG turbos; so, turbolag becomes an issue when shifting and launching...right? This means you will have to shift fast (powershift) and in an event that you missshift, you can break a gear. Well, theres another workaround: Nitrous. A small shot (50hp) of nitrous may save your transmission from breaking sooner. The nitrous shot will spoolup the turbo faster so powershifting is not needed. Gears will engange nice and smooth, less stress, less breaking.

Ok but in launching, 1st gear does not receive the same stress like the other gears.
But when you already gone off launching, you will need to powershift in order to keep boost lag to minimal, thats when the danger comes, a driver error and the gears are gone.

Yes...I think 3rd and 4th come together and I think you need your stock syncros. I really DONT KNOW about this part. I just leave the builder to do the ugly part.

So basically if i don't do track, and am not a power shifter, ( i suppose i'm a granny shifter, which means i hit the clutch all the way down to shift, like the car is meant to be driven), i dont need to worry about doing any work to my tx?

Right. street tires do not put a lot of stress on gears like slicks do. But if you are going past 300whp, I would to the swap.

even if i dont powershift and not grind the gears? is it really necessary? i mean maybe i'll weld the LSD, but how were all these cars with the broken LSDs driven ? Sure they broke at low rpms during normal driving, but the wear that was put on them was not from normal driving.

I've seen pics from the stock tranny where 3rd gear was shredded because of too much power. It was crazy to see the tranny in pieces like that

well, I really dont know, but 3rd and 4th gear are skinny gears. Just use it like that, Im sure they will hold fine for 400hp
