who is never buying mazda again?

I had some convern with the protege leaving me stranded one night (due to the VICS issue, and yeah Mazda service sucks in regards to that.) I was hoping to go a little longer without needing another engine. My mechanic says it's remarkable this engine is still running so smoothly.

At what mileage did your VICS problem happen? Was your VIN included in the recall?

Around 120k. The recall is effective on cars built March 2003 or later, my car was built in January. I was told the recall would not be honored, but that I would need to take my car to a dealer and pay anywhere from $250-500 (non-refundable) for them to diagnose it to see if an exception would be made. I chose to invest that money towards parts for the new engine instead.

Oh snap, just converted a Saab driver to a Mazda3. So, we'll have our 2 Pro5's, my brother in law will soon be in a Mazda 3 hatch, little sister in a Pro5, and my wife's friend(said saab driver) into a Mazda 3 hatch as well. Also 3 of our close friends in Orlando all in Mazda 3's

I just bought my 2nd Mazda this past February :) I've been loving my zoom zooms for almost 3 years now :) Next car... hard to say what that will be but for now I love my speeed!

stephani, does your car really have spirally floral graphics on it?

Hmmm, back to original statement, sounds way early. ABS or not? Not that I think that that would matter too much if any.

ABS. It is an auto, but like you said, that shouldn't cause master cylinder to go.

On the bright side, it was goodwill warrantied, so I'm happy anyways :)

Dang, sorry to hear about it. That really sucks. Mine's an 03 but was built in 02, no recall. I figured if it hasn't happened in 72k miles and 5 yrs then it's not going to, but I guess that ain't the case. Hope you get a new engine soon...

Mine was in recall, they swapped intakes. I had not lost any screws but they were loose tho.

And why the hell would you go to the dealer for an oil change? You have 2,000 posts on here and you don't change your own oil?? I suggest you start. Unless you have money to flush down the toilet please stay away from dealerships unless you are there to buy a new car, and then make it quick and get away.

well, yes as the other guy said, i had a 6pack of oil change coupons, i paid $20 each because it was some kind of a special deal at the time, they include oil, oil filter, washer, and drain plug i think. (thats not bad at all for $20)

i used the last coupon, for coupons 3 and 4 they forgot oil or fuct up my car somehow

so ill change my oil on my own but parts is getting rediculous to get in, i ordered stuff from protegegarage but they screwed up my order too, (see other thread http://www.protege5.com/vbb230/showthread.php?t=123705352)
