Who has, & How Fast are the Fastest N/A Protege's?

Usually the track is prepped before you arrive

takes time to lay coat apon coat of the stuff all over that much track.

At the track I attend, if someone drops stuff on the track, they close the lanes for sometimes half an hour or more to clean it up and reprep just the affected area...

Yup it takes time to get it all done, and usually done before you arrive, it also Cost $$$$ to do so.

At out track, they charge 5$ Tuesday, but dont do ANY track prep, however Fridays they charge 20$ and do all the track prep, and stop to re-prep, for any spills ect.

Most 1/4 times are refered to times acheved on prepped tracks.

With cars doing Sub 100mph in the 1/4 it's about a half sec difference, BUT when the power goes up the time loss due to an un-prepped track gets MUCH bigger.

Just emagine trying to hold down a 1000hp Supra on a un-prepped track. Ahahahahahahahahaha

LordWorm would be pleased as all that Supra would do is a Smoke show.

Yeah I really couldnt tell much, the launch at 4000rpm felt just like my other launch, but I was at the 8th with no time slips so I geuss I better try this out next weekmore in depth, and compareslips.

Yes...

smokeshows, especially ones that need to be driven out of to avoid walls are great.

Was great to watch the ProRWD rotary powered beasts at WSID last month dump big half track burnouts and then shake out of control as the power came off =)

Yeah, I like to watch the Mustangs Buck, some have close calls with the wall.

No its trackprep.

Its cheating if you put extra traction compound on your own tyres....

But you'll find that at all pro events, any meet you go to compete in, and a large proportion of the "test and tune" street meet sort of nights you head out to, there is some sort of track prep done.

and you forgot the most important part!!!!

it smells like bubble gum :) lol

p.s. I ran a 16.54 bone stock

My car has had some mod treatment.

Microtech LT10S with X4 igniter, bosch coil packs and wideband

I've also done the AWR front mount (not rear yet....pain in the ass it is)
and TWM short shifter

expecting to drop quite aways into the 15s - shall find out this saturday...

Souds great LW I cant wait to see some times up.

My new ride runs low 14's (14.3 fastest to date on street tires)

Im putting in a UDP headers & running drag radials up front for next season, Im hopping to bring her into the 13's with that :)

And what ride would that be?

edit...nevermind...finally got your sig to load...I miss my VR6 Passat sometimes.

Yeh - i can't wait either.. I'm pretty psyched about it all..its been a long while since i've hit the track..and theres prize money up for grabs this weekend :P

Not that i'll win any of it because Twilightprotege will be fiddling with my tune after every pass so consitancy will go out the window.

I'm aiming to get the car into the 14s by the end of the season - then I have a big decision to make.. keep it NA and go for 13's with water/meth injection, spastic compression and HUGE RPM, or build a custom supercharger kit and go for some 10 second action :p

Sounds like your making a crazy ass P5 LW "water/meth injection, spastic compression and HUGE RPM" Sounds devious, Id like to see that in action.

Yeah, Chipped VR6 in a MKII with a full catless exhaust line, stage 2 clutch & racing suspention make for some decent 1/4 mile times.

Haha, yeh

I'm kind of torn between making the fastest ever over the 1/4 mile without force induction (to do this, i'll need 9000 rpm redline, which means FP crank shaft to drop the stroke, long as hell rods, bore the crap out of the cylinders, sleeve it, light weight internals, reduce the rotating mass and go from there),

OR

building the fastest ever FI protege by supercharging with alot less emphasis on outright engine speed, and alot more boosting the hell out of it. haha

Thinking supercharger just to be different....:P

The water/meth injection essentially means i can get more resistance to flash ignition, so i can run much higher compression, with much more agressive timing. Especially in the NA game, every last bit counts :)

I gota say WOW. Thats some serious plans for a FSDE

Yeah after a Zoom Zoom Boom, with such light mods on my FSDE I took a step back and asked myself if I really wanted to invest in my Protege as a tuning platform.

Yeh either plan requires lots of money spent on internals.

The NA plan will cause the most stress i think, given 9000rpm engine speed target if i go down that road. To achieve it i'm going to have to give up stroke, and get a very large bore. I'll also have to use lots of light weight internals, which means probably titanium or aluminium rods, and some serious cross drilling and knife edging of the crank. The whole thing will need to be balanced perfectly.

the supercharged plan will actually cost less, get me further and be easier to do. Paxton NOVI-1000 centrifugal, relocate the accessories in such a way that i can retain all my stuff (dont wanna lose my aircon in sunny queensland...gets hot in these parts!), intercooler, and upgraded injectors along with internals would largely be all i'd need to do.

NA i'll need quad throttles, so custom intake manifold and plenum, i'll need to spend more on internals, i'll probably need engine dampers of some sort because the vibration would annoy the missus too much, i'd need some big hardcore tranny upgrades, etc etc etc.

But something about NA is very attractive to me...it just seems "tougher" even though FI is going to make more power..... *shrug*...decisions decisions.

Way too pricey for me, I cant wait to see what direction you go.

Im about my VR6 now, My goal is to have her at/over 200whp by the begining of summer.

:)

I should be real close as is, but After the stuff I got planned for her, I should be there no doubt.

I can't wait to see which way i go either :)

beauty of supercharging...you can go all out on NA, then essentially just drop your compression and add a blower...
Depends if i want to play the "whittle 1/10 of a second off every time you mod" game....or if i want to just blow into the 12s straight away and keep pushing from there.

New Time: 15.581@87.55MPH
Microtech LT10S, Microtech X4, Bosch coils, 9.25mm ignition leads, AWR front engine mount, TWM short shifter, stripped interior.

what all are you gutting in your interior
I remove my back seat, centre console, rear speakers, spare tyre and tools...
and on the outside i remove the rear spoiler, the front splash guard/stone shield.
