OK I need someone to fly me down to Mexico to make a pickup and then back into the US without dealing with customs....

No just kidding. I am probably going to start working towards my private pilots license soon. My father holds just about every certification and is also a Certified Flight Instructor. Just wondering if anyone else is a pilot.

you lucky basterd, if my dad was a certified flight instructor, i'd have my pilot's license before i had one to drive a car

I'm one of those fokkers who learned to fly before he could drive a car. When I did start driving, I had to relearn not to go down the center line all the time. Bwahahaha. The other weird thing is they let you rent a $100,000 plane (with instructor) when you're 14 (or 16 to solo it), but you can't rent a damn econocar until you're 21 or something. Is that totally ****** or what? As far as takin' a Mexico roundtrip, a lot of pilots are tempted but I know I wouldn't do it unless somebody put a gun to my head or something.

I have flown in the past I just dont have a license. I have never soloed of course. My father is going to be building a plane at our house now. He doesnt really do it for work anymore. Mainly for pleasure. We have a 40 X 40 hangar and a grass strip ready to go.

It's just so damn expensive to fly and planes are not cheap. I would like to get just a little Cherokee 140 or something to screw around in. It would be slow as s*** but at least I would be flying.

Hope you get to buy a plane someday! I won't unless I come into a lot of money. I figured the math one time, and it really doesn't pay to buy one unless you fly at least 100 hours a year so for now it's rentals only for me.

I've got a single engine with around 150 hrs but haven't been up since 2000.
Expensive hobby unless it's a career. Wish my father was a CFI at the time, would have saved mega bucks.

glyph is a C-17 pilot for the air force

My father being a CFI is the big bonus especially if he has an airplane. It will save me thousands of dollars in rental fees and the cost of an instructor. He had a twin engine Piper Aztec that he got rid of a couple years ago. That was a nice plane. He used it to run a charter service. It had a stormscope and de-ice equipment, good for traveling. Way too expensive to operate though.

A decent Cessna 150 can be had for around 17K. Of course then you have to insure it and pay for annuals and tie down and fuel. A cherokee 140 can be had for somewhere in the 2x,000 dollar range. I wont fit in a Cessna 150 too well.

There are also some new regulations for a Sport Pilot License. Its like half the hours of a Private Pilots license and you dont even need a medical. You are limited to aircraft that travel under 130 MPH and under a certain weight. You could still fly an Aeronca Champ or something like that.
