white smoke

Today while getting onto the highway, I had white smoke come out my tailpipe for a few seconds. It started when I was around 5000rpm in 3rd gear. When I shifted into 4th gear, the smoke went away and never came back. This is the first time it has ever smoked. What could have happened here?

Had it been sitting for a while? If it was a j/w (cooling water) leak it should happen often. Anything special that day...long idle time, sat for a while, ran it hard before heating up? Not trying to dog you just trying toget a feel.

Car wasnt sitting long, maybe hour n half. No long idle. I really dont run the car hard, especially when the family is with me...which they were. I thought I was already in 4th gear, but it was 3rd. Hitting 5k rpm is rare for me

if you never rev the engine, it's quite possible that you simply cleaned the engine "italian style", and burnt off some crap in your combustion chamber.

A one time "smoke show" is very rarely something to worry about. A constant one is where you should start taking notice.
