MT. Accept no substitutes.

A manual transmission gives a car a soul, and the car feel like an extention of yourself.

Automatic cars feel like appliances for you to move people and things.

All IMHO. Enjoy your auto's fellas. ;)

Manuals are superior in pretty much every aspect...
gas mileage
more power
cheaper
last longer
lighter
can 'roll start' with a dead battery
more control over revs
usually more gears available

am i forgetting anything?

pretty much everything except convenience, like during rush hour, or massive San Francisco hills

I agree - manuals are more fun etc but I have an auto. I drive my car ALL day long for work and find the auto easier in traffic. If I was just going for a ride or just driving to work I would have got a manual. At least with auto I can hold my cup of coffee while driving...( cup holder sucks kind of). I have a manual transmission miata for the fun driving!

I prefer a stick to an auto - on resales some dealers try may tell you autos are easier to re-sell.
Only advantage I can see for an auto is if you do alot of stop & go heavy traffic driving every day - still I'd opt for a stick.
ps - also prefer standard for winter driving in the snow.

Autos are boring as hell!Manuals make you feel like your one with the car and it also brings out the racer in you!!!:D :D :D

An automatic is probably easier to sell later. however, unless you prefer an automatic it's not worth an extra $1000 to sell a car a little quicker or get only $500 extra when you sell. No matter to me. I plan on keeping this car 10 years... If it lasts like my '89 Celica did. If you're in stop and go traffic or have young children, then get an automatic. If not, get the manual! I love my manual. I do think automatics are better in the snow because you can do that forward-backward-forward-backward thing easier. I live in TX, so that's not an issue for me.

NFP, PJH! I was wondering if anyone had been reading my sigs... I'm the Dallas, TX center for NOCIRC (www.nocirc.org), a nationwide 501(c)(3) organization. We're trying to educate as many people as possible in hopes that they'll let their sons choose for themselves whether they want to keep their entire penis. And yes, my title (to the left) means what it says... as weird as that sounds. Check out www.norm.org for (no s***) foreskin restoration information.

What about an Sportshift? Mostly an auto I know, but it can be fun. Anyways, in Atlanta stop and go one hour traffic jams, a manual would not be fun.

Full Deck!

Someone has much too much time on their hands :D

The Protege lineup was never meant to be straight line fast, not what the chassis was designed for.
But on a track the manual will have far greater control than a auto. I gain some control with the sport shift which is leaps and bounds above a standard auto but still not close to a manual.

I like my sport stick :)
Can cruise in the Heavy traffic here, get just as good gas mileage, not much slower, easier resale on a Protege (this isn't a high end car here), plus it only cost 500 more which included a 6-change.

They can cost more to repair though :( However just take care of your car and have no worries.

I always thought auto was boring but I think I grew out of that. I still have the Miata for weekend driving but day to day, the auto on the P5 is just less tiresome.

i used to sit in rush hour traffic in pittsburgh which is hell through the tunnels (boostisgood will back me up on that), and i had a 5spd rx7...i can deal with it...to me, i laugh at people that buy fast cars like corvettes with autos, but like it was said, the p5 isnt a fast car...but still, i would never buy one in auto unless it was going to stay stock...

Well it depends what are you modifying your car to perform in? Drag racing? Cause if so autos become progressively faster than a manual in the long run.

Modify what ever you want to make your car more enjoyable. :) In the end the P5 offers more enjoyable than just having a manual. I never find myself bored with it, and if I start to then I just flop it into sport shift for a extra blast. :D

True, guess if I had to buy the P5 again I would have probably waited for a manual.
Actually the first one I was going to get was a manual (MP5driva03 eventually bought that one), but when I went to pick it up I saw the blue one and decided to get that. Plus through my work I got the 03 for less than the used 02 they were offering. And needed a car badly as my Saturn was died and I needed something to get me the 70miles to work each day.
