Which suspension is best for the P5?

Hi all, i was wondering, there are a nice few options for lowering springs for our p5 and i wanted to know which one you use or like the best.

I'm looking for opions, im thinking about getting the H&R springs (1.3 drop in front and back) what do you think? How is the ride, does anyone have this product? Im looking for a low soft ride.

Also, do you think i should wait to get my 17" rims first before getting lowering springs or it doesnt matter?

Thanks for the input, and if you have pics of your lowered car, please post it along with brand spring /part number if you know it :)

Well, It all depends on taste really.
I have the Eibach springs on my P5 and I love them!
Actually, I felt an improvement in the drive quality once installed.

It does not matter when you install the rims but you'll be a happier man if you installed them both at the same time.

You've seen my pics...But I'll post it again!:D
I just love how it looks so far...lot of work to do...too little time...;)

I just love my Redhead! :D

Hey dude I have H&R spring it is 1.5 inch lowered and I got 17 inch wheels on my car ride is great aa little hard at times but look very nice

how much is the drop with the eibach springs? i have been debating whether the drop would be worth it. I also read in my manual that you shouldn't change the height of your car because of all the sensors on the sides. What's everyones input on that?

go and find the page you read that on and tell us what it is....I have never heard of such a thing......I would be interested in seeing it in the manual myself so I could figure out what its refering to.

Never heard anything about sensors. I lowered my car using Skunk2 coilovers, 2.8" FRONT, 2.5" REAR. Plus the rims I put on my car are only 16's . Handles and rides great. I love em.

BTW: i've used H&R on both my old cars, they are good too. Eibach's are also good I know a few people that have them on thier rides. Dont know about Ground Controls though.

hmmm...i think it was something dealing with the air bags. pg. 2-38 under the headline Suspension Adjustment. By changing the height, the car cannot accurately detect a collision.

If someone is really that paranoid, then you should stay away from lowering your car. My Honda manual said the samething about lowering the car, but a year later I got into a front end collision going about 45 MPH. I totaled the Civic and my airbags deployed correctly. I do know what you're addressing when you speak of the sensors, but I can assure you that it is nothing to lose sleep over. No car company would release a car if the airbags don't deploy properly.

On a side note

I'm looking at the Eibach Springs on http://www.Protege5Online.com. Not a bad price and just the amount of drop I am looking for. Is there any other parts I need to pick up to make the swap work? Do I need any camber adjustments or anything like that?

I just have the factory wheels. I don't plan on replacing them with aftermerket unless I run over a curb or hit a pothole and bend one. Do I need the camber kit if I stick with factory wheels. I don't want dropping the car to F-up my alignment or balance of the wheel. I am really new to the world of suspension. Never lowered a car or replaced the springs. Any help is appreciated it.

on my car we did not need the adjusters. i got perfect camber settings ~-1 degree.

you will ned to get the car realigned that is a given. the springs will not have any effect on the wheels ballence.
its best to have a shop install them or if you have a friend that has a spring compressor that will work too.
we got mine finished in about a hour and a half.
pretty easy install once you figure it all out

Cool Tom. Thanks for the input. I have a friend who's dad owns a body shop. They have the lift and everything. He said he would charge me a six pack to do it.:D Not a bad deal, huh?

I put the Eibach's on mine and love the ride and the looks. Had the 4 wheel alignment performed and did not need the camber kit, but the shop said the wear on the tires might be a little uneven over time. Racing Beat also offers the springs that they put on the MP3, bu they only drop 7/8".

I hearya'

Yes, SirNuke. I would wait until he was finished before breaking out the 6 pack. I learned the hard way about that one. The outside of my house needed painting. Free steaks and beer for those who participated. Big mistake. I ended up highering a professional painter the next week to come redo the house, so it really cost me double. (sorry to be off topic).

What better way to test the ride after he's done than to make a run to the convenient store to pick up the suds.
