Which Oil Filter????

:
2016 Mazda CX-5 GT AWD w/Tech & i-Activesense
Ok, so I coming up to the first oil change on my new to me '03 P5 and want to run Mobil1 full syn but what filter should I use. Anyone tried the bosch one? AcDelco? let me know.

Get the K&N one, comes with a nut on top in case u cant get it off, MUCH easier! and dont get Mobil1, get Royal Purple, its a little more but MUCH better :D

Don't run either. Pennzoil Platinum is a far better synthetic than both Mobil or RP, and K&N filters are good, or for half the price, Purolator filters are excellent too. Don't bother with Purolator Pure 1's, they are restrictive and can open the bypass valve too easily.

Use the one for the 626's 2.5 V6. Bolts on and holds a bit more!

Any kind. Change it every 3000 miles. Same as for oil.

Get the OEM Mazda filter. I paid under $7 for mine, and you can probably get a discount if you buy a few at once.

I run the longer than stock filter which would be a Wix 51356 or a Purolator L14610. Currently I run the Purolator Pure One which would be a PL14610 and have used it on the track. It fits with plenty of room to spare. Both Wix and Purolator are good filters. Some have been reporting that the anti-drainback valve in some of the K&N filters leak and results in dry starts. Supposely the K&N and the Mobil1 filters are the same other than the hex on the K&N.

Wrong answer. FRAM filters have cardboard internals; occasionally, the cardboard gets sucked into your engine. Yeah, bad.

Mobil1 is only a medium grade synthetic group III. Pennzoil Platinum is a true synthetic group IV. Chevron dino oil is great. Even non-synthetic oil should be run for more than 3k miles in the P5. Less is just a waste of time and money.

So not all oils and filters are created equal.

Um.. I have never heard of the card board getting sucked into the engine. I have heard of it collasping and clogging the filter but never sucked intot he engine. Also NOT all frame filters have cardboard in them. The higher end fram ones are ok.

wow.. lots of crazy info!

from what i know, get the 626 filter, so you can add more oil. what brand... not sure. but the filter is what keeps your oil nice, so dont skimp on it! as for oil, if you arent a crazy mofo living at redline, dino works fine. i use mobile 1 with no issues and change at 5k miles.

Purolator Pure One filter here...it's rated as high as filters like Wix, but it only costs about half the price. And they now have this coating on the outside that makes them very easy to grip, even when covered with oil!

Purolator filter ftw! From what I understand, Mobil1 is just a rebranded purolator, or at least it used to be... I always use mobil1 synthetic. Royal purple is waste of money IMO

I have been using the Bosch filter (part #3323) which is the same filter used for the 626 v6 engines. This will allow a full four qts of oil to be added.

hey thanks guys, going with Mobil one 5w30 and purolater filter, they didn't have the 6s6 one instock but maybe next time. again thanks for the help!

Don't use mobile one oil. They downgraded their formula 2 years ago from a IV to a III in an effort to reduce the cost of making the product. However, they still charge the same price. Other oils of similar value are IV oils.

Or at least thats what I've been told via these forums, I personally have no idea what any of the information I just spewed means. I don't know what oil you should use, but just don't use mobile one.

If you have no idea what it means, then why do you bother posting it?

I happened to have heard the same as well, tho I don't know for sure and I have personally never had any problems with mobil1 and have used it since I turned 16. I will probably look into this, since I may be wasting money. But, try to avoid spounting off information that you neither understand or have any experience with. Just my .02

Well I don't really know what the difference between IV and III is but I was just trying to share with him that this change occurred. But I do ramble on a lot and say useless things (dunno) I'll try to contain myself more often (killit)
I remembered these posts from a while ago:

Mobil 1 changed their formula 2-3 years ago.

Was it for the better?

Absolutely not. It was a bean-counting call. Group III is cheaper than Group IV, yet still called 'synthetic'. Who's gonna know, without sending it off for testing at the lab? And who does that*?
