Which Octane?

both engines are suggest 87 octane.
i have the 6 cylinder. and it's 10:1 compression..pretty high if u ask me...i give it nothing but 93 octane. especially with the variable valve timing. i figgure why not?

Alrighty. I'm actually shopping for a protege5, but the dealer said they could give me a sweet deal on a new 6. Problem is, I drive at least 50+ miles a day so mileage and gas prices are very important.

Thanks.

Damn, just like me! I give my baby nothing but 93+. If you have advacned timing, and high compression, use 93!

If the car is specced for 87 Octane, it doesn't help anything to put higher octane gas in unless the computer is designed to advance the timing if it senses the better fuel.

Very true;)
Our MP3's should run premium octane due to the advanced timing

Hmm, sounds good to me.

I just have 1 question.

My current vehicle is a 4runner with the V6. The manual recommends premium, but I don't see why I should put it in, so I've been putting the cheaper stuff in.

Would car manufacturers lie about what kinda octane they recommend?

You are not seeing your vehicle's full potential if it recommends premium, and you are putting in the cheap stuff. You may have advacned timing, or higher compression, and when you use the cheap stuff, your computer senses knock, and retards the timing for the cheap fuel. Try premium and see if there is a difference.
