which is faster...

please do cus that sohc is a pos, worst then even the protege motor.....im not sayin the msp is godlike or great.....the best turbo motors are always goin to be nissan in my opinion :) but dont compare a sohc civic to the msp, cus i have had several along with friends....they are pos slow even with a turbo kit....

and 10-12 psi isnt alot compared to 9-10 psi from a sr20, eclipse, and 11-12 or so from a wrx....the msp is runnin really low boost comapred to other stock turbo cars......

a stock wrx does the 1/4 in mid to low 14s, dependin on driver of course.... a msp can do the same with compareable boost, even thou the wrx has a slighty larger IHI turbo......apples for apples isnt gonna happen with turbo cars, too many variables and s***......

Damnit

I had a chance to get a 2001 typeR 15,000miles for 12 grand no lie.I always wanted to turbo a integra,it was my plans for so long. But then i saw the MSP and the deal they had on it. I'm happy as hell with my car,but i knew i should just got the type r and did what i wanted too,yah well, shoulda, coulda, woulda....right..one day my msp will be gone and i will have what i want(prolly this comeing summer)...a Bmw M3 or corvette..a real sports car. The other day i drove a 2001 bmw 325ci Black/Black 5spd. Its a nice car,but my msp would smoke that thing. Its ok..If i really need to go fast and beat some cars my real passion is on 2 wheels...i have a 2003 Honda RVT1000R Rc51...i love that bike so much Vtwins are awesome...later

hmm how is this dealin with the thread??? my nephew has a itr powered civic and its a beast, i luv hondas and the over square ass motors they run, i still what a itr motor with itb's and 13 to 1 cr pistons....but when u dealin with turbo ur gettin into really strict laws......no point in comparing numbers til u get and race the bia....

The sohc is highly underestimated, even by Honda enthusiasts. But anyway...slight topic change..since you seem to know Nissans, what do you know about the SR20DE and SR20DET? Aren't these two motors basically the same, except the obvious? Just wondering because I found an SR20DE and was curious if it could be turbo'd with similar results.

And after all is said and done we've yet to see an MSP break into low 13s.

I wasn't comparing the amount of boost, rather the 1/4 mile times.

like i stated above, the car isnt even a year old and ur expectin ppl to have a host of mods on there cars.....chill out man, i know several ppl includin myself that will be in 13s by summer with only bolt ons i promise.....were hondas hittin 13s awhen they first came out??? and someone was comparing boost between the cars .....go sit in the corner and ponder for a lil please

how is the sohc engine under estimated? they are not designed as good as the b series motors and its well know.....sure u can make a sohc fast but not for the same price as a b18c :)

about the sr20de and det the de doesnt have oil squiters, and other lil minor details, like compression ratio i think de has 10 to 1 while det is 8.5 to 1...but basically they are the same.....i never dealt with a sr20de but from the info i got while doin my sr20det this is what i gather... the sr20 is a strong motor stock....before i left the 240sx comunity several guys wer ein the 500plus hp range on stock block.......lemme see a honda do that :) i know several g20 and se-r owners that are makin over 300whp with the stock sr20de motor as well......its down to the relaly detail stuff that is different between the n/a and turbo version of the sr20, but im pretty sure that alot of the two motors are the same.....

Did you read? 6-7psi on the GSR = high 13s.

10psi on MSP = 14s

GSR > MSP

and explain how this doesnt compare boost??? ur basically sayin the gsr is runnin lower boost and is faster then a msp wth higher boost....i shut down this sad attempt by u to down play the msp as s*** and then u change ur story that ur not comparin boost....come on man....take a time out.....:D

SOHC turbo cars suck?? Wanna tell that to the guys on the SVO board? They have cars with slicks and a 50hp shot (to get the turbo spooled) that will run 10's on the stock bottomend. As long as the block is bulletproof (and fords 2.3L is) you can throw as much boost at it as you can make. I've seen guys running 30+psi on the stock bottomends. Sure they're SOHC, but they make assloads of power just the same.....[/threadjack]

matty i think u missed the point of this thread cus we are not talkin about sohc motors in general, just the sohc honda d-series motor, and it is a performance pos......get off the train unless ya got a ticket :)

In 1993 Mazda created a short bore spacing version of the F engine called the FS. It was used in the 1993+ 626/MX6 (83x92mm) and had a DOHC head. Although it is loosly based on the 'FE/F2' internals it is a new generation and not many parts interchange. The motor mount bosses are in different locations and the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. Same situation as the generation change between the 'F'/'MA' and the 'FE'.

The 'F' engines are the 'big blocks' of the 4 cylinders. They are long stroke motors and are generally not designed for high revs. All were cast iron SOHC with the exception of the FS and FE3.

Looks to me like the FS has been around for a while and so have the F-series in general. You figure people would know how to mod them by now.

Just because a car model is new, doesn't mean the drivetrain is anything new.

Get off the train unless ya got a ticket ;)

My HE-MAN Bigwheel is the fastest evAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your turbo integra and Mazdaspeeds won't stand a chance to the likes of my plastic wheeled fury!!

sorry...a bit off topic...well, I used to have a 92 eg hatch with b18C-R Jspec motor...(japanese type R)...running NA, we had the thing running 14's all day...with CTR cams of course...;)

So I guess your answer is, that with the right tuning, anything could be made fast...stock to stock is diff though....I'd say they're about even unless we're talking type R, but that's a different debate altogether...

my last vehicle was a heavy ass del sol si. with the sohc vtec engine(stock). And in no way could it even compare to my speed. Maybe it could feel a little faster in a gutted hatch with some boltons, but as it sat in my sol, no contest. I've seen some wierd numbers turboed from these d engines though. Junkyard built ones w/ t25's that put down 170whp/160tq untuned on stock bottom ends. While that may not be that impressive to most, add that to a 2100-2600 frame and youve got your self a fun little civic. I would have turboed in a heartbeat before swapping out my d16, but I live in cali so I gave up hope and got my speed. There is a big following for d series engines on line. I forgot the board name, but these guys swap d series parts from every engine from the first gen teg's and crx's to 5th genvtec d16's and back and fourth. And you can turbo these real cheap too. Internals, heads, trannys and blocks are dirt cheap and easy to find.

sorry bout that. the topic started out with turbo tegs. Poorly tuned and no traction are the only things we could hope for being stock against one.

Ok new one Whats faster - A Mitsushibi 300 GT SL with a VR4 conversion but no AWD --- OR --- A Mazda Mazdaspeed Prodigy with Two Turbos and a Fat girl in the back?

^^ Think that was stupid? Not as stupid as three pages of thread arguing over what had to be the vaguest most pointless question I have seen in a while, hell it may have been a really good troll. There were no where near enough parameters to answer that question reasonably. This Thread is GHEY

thats why i stated a s*** load of times why u cant do a tupid comparison on these cars with no a\hard facts on the tubos involved etc.....i was just gettin a kick out of the guys with their heads stuck up hondas ass....:) oh and btw if the fat girl is singin the prodigy gets a 30whp "hot gas" turbo boost :)

i don know s*** about the motors that are offered from mazda bisedes the rotaries of course but ill saw one thing that its immpossibly o think that anyone is gonna compare the motor in the msp to anythng offered from the miata.... or "mx-5"......its a different layout nd setup.....u need time to learn this and make sure you dont tear up ur new car ur still payin for......honda tuning has been big for over 7 years AT LEAST......countlessmotors lost and several more takin to serious power.......u facts are nice and helpful but ur still not tellin me how you expect new car owners to go out ands turn up their boost in the name of research just so u can say the msp suxs.....until iget my e-manage and assoc. parts my car is stayin stock....i like my warrenty:) btw i got off the train 3 stops ago....ur still riding alone........
