I'm new, carless and looking!
HA:). Hi all I am new! Just joined to ask questions about cx-5's and maybe participate a little!

I've decided to get my wife a Mazda CX-5 and having a tough time deciding which is the best year to get.
Which CX-5 is most reliable and why (why..; if possible)? Thanks!

Tough to tell if a '15 is reliable since it's brand new. But looking at records from the 13, they rate pretty good, so I would assume newer would work out any minor bugs. We've had ours for 7-8 months, 11,000kms, and have no reason to visit the dealer. Reliability doesn't seem to be an issue, so it all depends on how much you want to spend.

One thing to remember is that it is only the CX-5's built after December 2013 I think that have the improved crash safety rating.

You have a 2013 CX-5 ? (edit; sorry - I see your car now, on the left [2014]... this further drives the points I made below..)

@Kedis82ZE8 @Capsfan84
Thank you both for the safety information. That is good to know!!

It looks like (so far), from the poll, everyone said 14/15 years which I tend to agree with. There has been LIMITED information I found to support this also. Most of it are only predictions......
I do want to point out this information though: http://www.carcomplaints.com/Mazda/CX-5/

I had similar findings online relating to the problems reported at the above link with the 2013 engine hesitation issue (along with gps issues [idc about this]). Some of my findings were mentioning how it is louder than normal coming from the engine bay inside the cabin. There was also mention in a FEW video reviews that say the RPM and tranny shifting didn't QUITE meet up, saying the RPM stays lower to get that extra MPG. Could be the reason??

I wonder what kind of engine/tranny it has if this engine/tranny is used in any other vehicle.

Thanks for the feedback so far, please keep it coming!

You may want to check out---> http://www.truedelta.com/

Good site! It shows the 2015 on top (for obvious reasons). The site looks like it stopped 3/4 of the way through this year (2014). I'd say probably give it another 3 months and the 14 may still be on top.

I welcome more votes and feedback but I think a 2014 (or 15 if wanting new) is the best route to take rather than the 13. I don't think any of the years would be the worst per say, but I'd like the best of all. Thank you!(bowdown)

Kind of a silly poll.

My 13 is a very early build, and has been 100% problem free. But, I think it's pretty common that first m/y vehicles always suffer some teething issues or lingering gremlins, until the manufacturer can make revision the following cycle.

A bit(unamused), perhaps, but useful nonetheless. My hopes from this thread were to get a good discussion going on (and maybe find out what problems people experienced) about the foresight of reliability for these years. You know, instead of discussing just the features, which 99% of all reviews are revolving around.

I learned a few more things that I didn't already know. Thanks for your input :)

In terms of general reliability, all years are excellent and there have been no major issues for any model year. However, some things people would deem as annoyances such as vibrating mirrors/hoods have been addressed in later models. Additionally there have been upgrades each year (2014's get 2.5l and some extra chrome on the stereo, 2015's get new shifter, keyless entry on touring models, new mirrors, etc) so it really depends on what year fits your budget and if some of the extra features added on down the road are worth it to you.

Exactly!

Exactly, and why the CX-5 is a good selection in this competitive class of compact crossover SUV's. Selecting the right used vehicle carefully and the usual guidelines still apply of course.
