Which brake pads to get?

I have an 02 Protege5 and my pads are pretty much shot...they are making the squeaking noise a lot and now my parking break light is coming on a lot- a signal the pads are way low.

Which pads do you guys recommend?

stock ones do fine for performance and little to no dusting, hawk pads are good if you don't mind the brake dust and want more braking power.

ditto on posi quiet - love them and affordable - put them on everything with discs - haven't tried their shoes. Venture an unscientific guess of 10%+ improved stopping.

Go Hawk HPS [tm] FTW! I have less dust and a little better grab.

Don't delay! Do something before the pads eat into the rotors (badbadbad)

I just use the stock ceramics they always seem to work well for me. But then again I don't race either

My Hawks ate the brembo c/s rotors up & after 75000 miles of use the rotors & pads were trash.lol. Went with some Lomandi pads & new c/s rotors. Seem to be nice & even nonwear, no noise & much less dust than oem or Hawk. Retired my oem pads/rotors at about 8k. They're in a box in the garage for emergency backups if ever needed, no wear to speak of on them.

The posi-quiet ceramic pads work just fine. I bought pads and rotors for all four corners from Tri-Point last year.
Thinking about going this route with the blank non-coated rotors in the tri-point sale.

Would replacing the rotors even be worth it, assuming stocks are fine?

Assuming the stocks are fine, no.

I have the Posi-quiets and ecoated blanks. Put about 60K miles on them and still have pad left. Actually have a lot of pad left. I drive free spirited from time to time and drive through a 15 mile twisty on the way home everyday. Very low dust but some fade in the twisties once they heat up.

The ecoated will eventually flake off, but I hit it up with a wire brush and industrial heat spray paint and everything looks brand new.

sortof a followup question: im looking for a step above stock braking. i had the EBC green stuff front + rear, but being as money's tight these days (and everyday) will getting a different brand rear pads affect overall performance? for example, getting the posi-quiet pads from tri-point for the rear, while waiting to upgrade the front.

the car isnt autocrossed or raced. mostly daily driving but i'd like more confident braking if possible. my main concern is if mixing the brands would be a notible issue. thanks

i dont know but i have front OEM and rear Posi Quiet Ceramics and stopping is pretty good for me, only problem with the posi quiets is that those pads are smaller than the oem so now i have a lip on ourside and inside (not the sides of the rotor but near the end and near the center of the rotor on both sides of rotor lip is .5inch so total of about an inch of lip on rotor.)
got what i paid for...

If you're having issues with confidence in braking ability with the car, I suggest you probably change out your brake lines to a new set as that will firm up quite a lot and at the same time, change the brake fluid. Brake pads won't make much of a difference with our cars that you will notice. I used stock pads when I went to the pad and was passing S2000's, the only thing I changed was to a new set of stock pads and some high temperature brake fluid.

1: stainless steel lines
2: dot4 fluid
3: good maintenance (new fluid, regular bleeding, check the bleed screws, lube the slides)
4: I run the EBC greenstuff pads. They don't need a warmup to work like stock, but once they're warmed up, you'll notice a nice improvement in bite.

EBC Ultimax pad/ semi-slotted rotor combo works great. I have the semi-slotted rotors up front w/ non-slotted rears and the difference is night and day and very quiet with good bite. Of course the comparison was against completely worn and pitted rotors.

I have a pair of front pads:
AKEBONO ACT637

Bought from rockauto.com about 2 months ago.
I heard my brakes squeaking and ordered pads...turns out they were just squeaking because the guy I bought my car from had JUST replaced the pads ...

The box has never been opened, brand new. $60 shipped or if your near philly you can pick them up locally
