Where's the Boost!?!

2003.5 MSP
Hey everyone! This is my first thread on the board and I've really learned a great deal from you guys already. As you can see from my sig., I just bought my MSP a week or so ago. With the help of this forum, I've already fixed several problems I found when I bought the car. This weekend I programmed the remotes, fixed the rear end clunk with Energy Suspension bushings I found at Autozone, and added a temporary short-ram intake from some spare parts I had laying around.

I'm not sure if this works for these vehicles or not, but I disconnected/reconnected the battery to hopefully reset the ECU after I did the intake mod. Does this work? I have found it successful on past vehicles. I always let them idle for 10 minutes afterwards to set idle A/F.

To not go to far of topic, I have posted in other threads about excess boost (10 to 12 psi according to guage) . I bought the MSP this way and have worried myself (and the dealer - great bargaining tool :) ) about this for the past week. I can't find a boost controller under the dash or in the engine bay. The motor runs great and I have been good about staying out of the boost, but I would rather dial the boost back a little if I could. The only other thing I can think of is the WGA spring mod. I can't tell if anything has been tampered with in the engine other than the BOV. Any suggestions?

could you like , post pics of under the hood ?

if you have a bov, you have hard piping.. made of metal.
you might even have a font mount intercooler.. or side mount.. follow the piping from the engine going top the font.. and take pics.. and post them here..

12 psi on stock s*** is a problem waiting to happen

Here's a few pics I took the other day before I cleaned up the BOV install and put in the intake. Like I said, I used the over-enthusiastic boost as a bargaining tool when I bought the car. My sales guy tried to say that all the mods were done right and it should add value to the car. I quickly smacked him down with the "double stock boost and stock internals = grenade motor" argument. He adjusted price accordingly.....

the mods were done right and add calue to the car...that is the biggest load of crap i have ever heard...and after seeing the crap job the last person did on your BOV i think that is even more ridiculous...god i hate salesmen...

Did the DPO hack into the return line where the BPV was? He didn't leave behind the BPV for me.....

If that's the case then I'm a pissed because I just read up on the BOV/BPV duel system and I have all the stuff here at work to plumb in the air manifold block.

Hey, im a car salesman, and I wouldnt give anyone a load of crap like that.

try blowing into the vacume line that goes to the wastegate, if you can blow into it, then you have a bad wastegte actuator, atp make a good replacement if thats the case. good luck

I'd question that setup and how the car may have been treated before. It looks like it was thrown together very carelessly.

I found the problem with the boost guage. The DPO hacked into the MAP sensor line for his boost signal reading. Thus, I was seeing manifold + barometric pressure on my boost guage. I put a air manifold on the brake booster line after reading up on a few threads. All my lines have been re-routed and I now get stock boost levels on my guage! That makes me feel much better about my purchase.

I still get some turkey at light boost, but I may just need to adjust the BOV some more. I would really like to put my BPV back in the system, but I do not have the part. Any suggestions on how to make one or something I can put in the recirc. line to act as one? I don't have $120 to shell out for a Forge and the factory part is crap from what I read. Here's a video I shot of my existing setup and the idle problem after blow off. I need to get some silicone lines and toss the plastic and rubber line.

You've done a good job cleaning up the hackery done by the previous owner.

Also, kudos to you for worrying about boost levels man. It's nice to meet a smart MSP owner.

Thanks for the comments. I like your P5! I came close to buying a red P5 until this MSP came along :)

I just got done talking to a buddy of mine that owned the car b 4 me and told me check the waste gate acc. and i blew in the line and mines stuck open causing my booste guage to spike at 14-15 psi. looks like a new acc. is coming now.

wow so ur friend sold you a car that has a blown wastegate actuator? you lucky your motor isnt gone allready you boost more than double the stock boost

well i've wanted the car since he bought it and he traded it in for an 07 ms 3. He didn't know it was bad until i just told him a min ago. Plus i had a warranty that was gonna fix everything but it's a long story and i now have no warranty. so i have to fix it.

i thought u said u had warrenty what the hell happend? o and nice choice on the ms3 i was thinking about getting one today but then changed my mind. ive allready dumped too much money in the msp so ill just continue building it to be faster than a ms3 =D

Well it got revoked because the mechanics failed to do a used car inspection on it or all this would be fixed already. Warranty requires a UCI or your screwed w your warranty. No body knew it didnt have a UCI done or they would've done one b4 they sold it to me. And yeah he made a good choice that car is fine and drives great!!!
