Where to place component crossovers?

I am wondering where exactly inside the door I should place my component's crossover. I have some Alpine Type X (SPX-177A, not 2004 model) crossovers and these suckers are huge.

you COULD leave them outside of your doors, and pull 2 sets of speaker wire. THisway, you can slap them under your seat, or wherever your amp is. (alot of ppl build them into ampracks to make it look spiffy) Personally when I was running a normal 2-way setup for all of the 2days the lasted, I really preferred having the tweeter mounted in the kickpanel area anyway, in which case, there's no need to pull extra wires.

I really want to try to hide the crossover, I wouldn't want speaker wire floating around in the car and the need of wiring speaker wires back out the door etc. I see some pics that just slap it on the inside on the plastic of the door itself, but those crossovers don't seem as big as mine.

What kind of size are you dealing with? I manged to fit a pair of window control modules behind my foor panel kindof directly above the stock speaker location. THey take up a pretty good bit of space, especially after all the wiring's taken into account. I'll dig for pics.

After taking the door panel off remove the foam block on the rear of the doorpanel. Ta-da! A space just appeared for your crossover! You might also want to cover that with a sound deadening material, use urithane or 3-M emblem tape to mount it. If you want picks I can prolly get you some tomorrow.

I managed to fit the crossovers for my JL XR-525 inside the door(they're BIG), it's above the speaker and to the right, you can see the doorpanel has some room there...hmm, come to think about it, I think I have a pic, hang on.

Okay here are some pics of my crossovers. The dimensions of the crossover is 7.087" x 5.304" x 1.850". The mid drivers are 6.75".

JAC... What are the dimensions of that crossover? Are those the crossover for the XR's components or coaxials?

Poseur & Joker... If its not too much of a trouble for you guys to find some pics, I would like to see them.

Damn, I don't know the dimensions but I'm sure you can look them up, yes, they're for the XR components.

Those are some big meaty crossovers. I suggest the door pockets.

On my Bostons, I mounted them under the seat (both driver's side and passenger side). You can get some adhesive and place on the bottom and velcro it to the inside of the doors too.

i got mine in the lil pockets on the doors, they stick out a enough to see the Diamond log, but all the wires arehidden..

Okay, so here's where my Window modules were and now are (used to be on the doorpanel, now they're attached to the door itself) They're still in the same location in the end, just attached to the other side. (well, that and I now put each module in it's own door) I recommend attaching your crossovers to the door if you do it at all because it makes dealing with the wires thatmuch easier whenever you may pull your panels in the future. Less to dis/reconnect every time. But still, I really do think that your best bet would be to just pull new wires to your doors if you want to run the tweets tehre as well, and tuck those things under your seat. they're HUGE. I don't know what's up with that, if it's entirely necessary or just a showy kinda deal, but dayem.

actually take a look at Poseur's first picture. Look to the far right of the doorpanel, there is a foam block there from the factory. Take the foam block out and place your x-over there.

A buddy of mine needs some help on his house tonight so I wount be able to get pics tonight but i will get them up as soon as possible. I have to do some tuning to my stereo before sat (Fl state finals for meca are sat!)

P.S. If the x-over will fit id go where Poseur said, shorter the wire is key! My DLS x-over was way to big for that location though!

I used some 3M forever double sided tape and taped mine to the inside of the exterior wall of the door. That's after sealing them in silicone.

No vibrations with it in the doors? Also, my xovers come with a switch that can be adjusted from 0dbs to -4dbs. The bad thing about having them in the doors is that you can't adjust it. Just try and set it the right time the first time.

I have mine in the pockets. You will have to drill a hole through the sheet metal and through the door panel if you do it this way, at least that's what i did.
