Where to go from here....

I had a 68 beattle back in the day. They are like tanks in the sand and the snow. The only problem in the snow is when you touch the brakes the fronts lock up because its so lite and now you have no steering at all. But yea I loved that thing in the winter. Everything else about the car sucked like no defrosters no heater fan zero balls underbody rot. But hey for 400 bucks it passed inspection.

shoulda taken the fronts off and replaced them with skis like a VW snowmobile

fwd has front wheels loaded with engine/trans weight resulting in better lb/per sq inch on the ground contact surface. now all you need is to put more narrow winter tires on and you are ready to take winter driving. the only issue with fwd comparing to 4wd is that due to huge under steer you can zoom-zoom yourself into the ditch much easier.

overconfidence is an issue for suv/awd drivers; that's why stupid things happen.

and I can't believe ppl actually considering using summer tires in winter. I just can't believe this s***.
it is not about snow on the ground it's about low temperature when summer tire gets hard as **** loosing its all capabilities. and some reputable web sites are actually testing those setups OMG

I'm in Denver. My MS3 with Blizzaks rock in the snow. I'd say its about 95% as good in the snow as my Subaru was on Blizzaks. The limited slip goes a long way to evening out the difference. The only thing I miss is the all-throttle powerslides.

Agreed. Narrow tires make a huge difference especially in deep snow. Overconfidence (and don't forget ignorance) is the largest problem with winter driving. Look for some '10 Subie Legacy GT's in the ditch this winter. Comes stock with RE50's, majority of consumers buy it for AWD and don't even pay attention to the fact some genious engineers put summer shoes on their sedan. I just hope I don't get one near me this winter!

It was a ton of fun when I was on my OEM potenzas last winter! Especially when it was one of the worst winters in Chicagoland in many a year.
