Where to buy CAI

You mean Injen vs. E-bay? No the injen gets coler air from the wheel well, that gives you more hp.

Not a problem. They're all made of the same thing T-304. Fits nicely. Only thing you might want to go to Lowes or somewhere for a better mounting bracket. Other than that it's much better than I expected. IMHO I'd rather pay $40 for 1whp than $200 for 2-3whp. It's all about cost/power ratio. :D

2-3 Horsepower? Okay, lets say even if it was only 2 or 3, which it's not what does that make it terms of gain. In my MP5 which was dyno'd back in early Feb by the R&D tech at Injen, my base whp was at about 95 hp. 2 or 3 more would be a 2-3% increase in hp. Which in my world is good enough. But hold on! in my dyno there was an actual 5% or 5hp increase. 5% hp is not bad my friend. there are not a whole lot of performance mods out there that can even claim that. AEM for one. Now let's say If I actually owned a 5spd, that figure would have doubled on the increase as well as the base Dyno would of been higher. So instead of my Automatic with a base of 95 HP, a 5spd would have a base closer to 102 or so with a gain to 115-118 with the Injen intake. Let's say 115 for arguments sake, that is stil almost a 13% increase. Damn son! 13% increase in HORSEPOWER for an intake. Sounds good to me. So my question is, can AEM make that claim? If they can I must reconsider my purchase. Also, I live in Calif. to and the C.A.R.B. sticker is a very big selling point.

I'm still working on getting the R&D tech from Injen to visit our site. I'm sure you can all pick his brain if/when I can get him to visit.

Thanks

I am finding it very hard to beleive that you would get +10hp gain with the intake. If you goto Injens site and take a look at the dynos they did there are very few cars that get more than 4hp. The ones that get higher gain all have larger engines.

Is there anybody out there that got a dyno done with stock 2000-2003 protege with just an intake?

well, if you don't want the lifetime warranty, the tech support should something go wrong, the craftsmanship, fit and finish, then the ebay one is great. just like the polarized walmart brand glasses are great. you pay for name and in some cases, for form and function. and the injen is one of those cases, i believe.

i just got a line from smilin marty and that's where i'm getting my info from. 5whp for an auto is damn good. that's better than racing beat's claim on their catback exhaust for $400+. a guy in tucson here got the aem and racing beat and was putting out 98whp on his auto. that's why i wanted to get the injen, and also because the aem for an auto looks like ass, imo. it just sits right up there. the injen definitely looks better, i think.
anyway, i figured with the combo from the injen and the racing beat, i should be looking at a good 8-9whp increase. $600 for 8-9whp isn't bad. it's about $70/whp gained. but at the same time, my car will look like a million dollars!

Your argument means nothing untill someone dyno's one of the e-bay intakes. And the whole post is based on assumptions. All you stated that is concrete is that your base HP was 95. Also IMO figuring HP gains by percentage is BS. Doesn't really matter anyway, everyone is entitled to their own choice.:D I'm just trying to tell him he doesn't need to spend $200+.

Why do you need a lifetime warranty on a piece of pipe? Craftsman ship? It's all T-304 aluminum with rubber fitting. And fit and finish on the e-bay one is great. Have you seen any of them in person, mine looks great. And you 4hp + 5hp doesn't = 9hp. Thing don't work like that in the real world.

Here's another question for everyone to debate...gas mileage. Does the CAI increase or decrease it? I have a K&N drop in filter now, and it keeps me at 23-25 mpg.

(2thumbs)

Kyred you may be right, a pipe is just a pipe. Kind of like a tire is just a tire, brake pads are just brake pads, springs are just springs, yep their all the same. what the heck, go to home depot. I got mine for looks anyways and if it is in you opinion that what I posted has no stock, fine. I got mine and it was FREE. Save yourself the bucks and go buy your home heater hose and duck tape and tell me your really happy and satisfied.

Or, better yet, maybe you can ask AEM to back up thier claim since you think my figures dont mean anything. I would love to see thier #'s even if they turn out to be better. I just may change my mind. Let me know.

That made no sense. An intake pipe doesn't even compare to tires, brake pads, and springs. Thos are all under a HUGE amount of stress. My piont was, what stressed does an intake pipe go through that will break it? I've never heard of anyone breaking an intake? Whereas tires and brake, pads and springs are under constant stress. Even if I did manage to break my inkate (still havn't figured how one would do that under normal conditions) I could go through 5 of them and I'd still have paid less than the Injen.

Your argument did have no stock. The only thing you could prove out of that whole post was your car's base HP.

I've got many compliments on my intake's looks, it's far from heater hose and duct tape.

If I would have gotten one of the polished ones (bling bling) what would the diffrence be in looks between in and the injen?

And if you would read my first post, I never said mine was better and anything! I said a comparible alternitive. Which is exactly what it is, I never claimed more HP or anything.

Why do you keep saying AEM? AEM did not make mine. AEM has nothing to do with my intake.

Listen man, i could really care less what anyone wants to do with thier car or more specifically what intake they want. I just thought it would be nice to post something that i've seen with my own eyes and was proven to me. Obviously your not believing me so, whatever, buy what you want. My argument may not have any stock to you but that's okay. You're convinced that it doesn't matter, you're mind is made up. Obviously my posting is not going to sway you in the least. However, for those who can benifit from the info I got from Injen I'm sure they appreciate this little tid bit of info.

Smilin Marty the one Man Party!! :)

Oh I agree. I was just posting to let the guy know he doesn't have to spen $240. :D Nothing personal. IMO the injen does look better, but not $200 better.
